Crash when loading missions

Hey guys,

 

First impressions of the game are good, but I've had a few issues so far which I'll explain below.

 

System specs:

 

• OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  
• CPU: Dual Core Intel E6700 @ 3.2 Ghz
  
• GPU: ATI HD5750 (1GB)
  
• RAM: 4GB (Limited to 3.5GB by XP...)
  
• Mobo: Asus P5GC-MX/1333
  

 

It's not a great system, but I manage to run FSX, FC2 and IL-2 with very good settings, which is why I was suprised when I had to run the lowest setting possible to even load a mission.

 

 

At first running the standard settings, no missions would load at all. I would see "Loading Ground objects" in the progress bar at the bottom corner of the screen. The bar would then move back over to the left and a few seconds later I here the standard windows beep when there is an error... (Like trying to delete a file when you don't have permission). NO error displays in game at all. I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del to minimize the game and then when I click back on DCS in the task bar I see an error message saying that runtime was terminated.

 

I continue to get this error message with some but not all missions. The "Instant Action" missions work perfectly (Although I have some small stutters). So far, the training missions all crash for me.

 

Could it really be that my system specs just aren't good enough? Like I said, I find that hard to believe after being able to run FSX and FC2 with quite good settings. I know I'm never going to max the game out on my system, but this just seems a little odd to me?

I can now load the training missions, which is definitely an improvement. However, my FPS in all missions is now terrible. I'm having some major stutters on missions which loaded just fine before. Could this be drivers?

It might be windows swapping to the page file - is there a lot of disk activity? 3.5gb is quite a squeeze for DCS to fit into.

So, Looks like I need to look into upgrading to Win 7 64bit and invest in some more RAM.

Yea, I've sort of run into the same issue( but I have a quad processor ) as you VH-Rock..Friday I am gonna buy Win 7 64bit on Friday..so starting tonight gonna look to see what I have to see what is needed to back up then a fresh install...then the fun begins..damn ..this baby looks sweet...

 

On a side note...don't see so far the nay says gripping now that the beta is out...quite quiet on the front now...

I am off work Friday until the following Tuesday..Monday is my Birthday so I get the day off work with pay..for my b-day(62)...sweet

Be sure that you have set your GPU settings to Application-Controlled and use the In-SIM GUI to set your AA and other values. Also make sure your antialiasing method is set to Multi Sampling AA. Vitally important as not doing so can account for a two-third FPS drop.

Thanks Viper, that did indeed improve my FPS but the stutters are still there. Guess it's time to upgrade (I was planning on doing so upon the release of the new sim anyway :) )

Something that might help you with _some_ (but not all) of your stutters would be a really aggressive defragmentation system. I personally use "ultimate defrag". This allows you to specify not only file continuity but also "folder" continuity, as well as designating which folders are "important" and should therefore be placed on the outer portions of the HDD platters. This might help. The caveat is that the newer versions of UD are payware (might be ways to script Defraggler to do the same job for free), and the operation takes a LOT of time. Think your normal Defrag run times 10. :P

 

If you use an SSD rather than an HDD, disregard.

Problem solved I just bought Win7 (64bit)..if interested it happened in all senerio's but I was running XP(32bit) at that time...

I have the exact same problem, I crash in all the traning missions (during the loading screen) and in the multiplayer. The problem is that I dont have 64 bit, I can only use 32 bit. Is there any way to make it work with 32 bit? (on windows vista)

EDIT : Nvm, problem fixed, I just had to enter this command : bcdedit /set increaseUserVa 3072

Everything is working well now.
