Joe Kurr Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 After seeing Beczl's excellent work on the MiG-21, I started wondering about missions containing 3rd party aircraft. What will happen when I create a multiplayer mission with a 3rd-party aircraft that isn't in DCS by default, and someone who doesn't have it joins the mission? What will he see when I choose this aircraft? Dutch Flanker Display Team | LLTM 2010 Tiger Spirit Award
joey45 Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Good piont. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. "Me, the 13th Duke of Wybourne, here on the ED forums at 3 'o' clock in the morning, with my reputation. Are they mad.." https://ko-fi.com/joey45
Krebs20 Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 If I were to guess. Which I am guessing. The 3rd party would have to release a free model for the dcs world the is not flyable. So joining players can see the proper model. It doesn't have to be the same high poly model. But a filler that the player would have to install to play online with mods he doesn't own. We will see how this is overcome soon enough. My question is how do I make a mission for the MIG21 before it comes out. I want to have a online server going day 1. Su25s running from MIG21s. O yeah. Tailgate Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I would imagine that there would have to be an AI version as well. I assume P-51 has this already so you can set up wingie's for SP?
Revelation Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 If you look in the ME, already most aircraft exist and can be designated as client. I imagine this was done to allow easier 3rd party expansions without having to release a DCSW update every time. If the aircraft already exists, then there's nothing more that needs to be done. As another has eluded, if it doesn't then I'm pretty sure it would be apart of the licensing agreement to use the 3D model in the DCSW environment. Grimes Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 My assumption is that 3rd party aircraft made in cooperation with ED will see a "DCS World" patch upon release adding all of the new external content to the sim. So we'd get the pretty new aircraft and weapons models that appear to be part of the Mig-21, similar to the P-51, Ka-50, and A-10C in DCS World if you don't own any of those products. As for making missions, its simple, just make the missions with a temporary aircraft with the express purpose of replacing it with the Mig-21 and setting the skill to "client" once the content is released. The only requirement would be the group you want to replace has to be an aircraft group for the country you want the player to fight for. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.
