Devil Out to Get me. Installation and Problem Running

dne48

Recommended Posts

I've done everythinn that has been suggested. Everything. I have downloaded once again, have all the files. Did a CC cleaner a couple of times. Changed the settings in case in needed to run as an administrator; did the user control setting- I can't think of another thing that I missed. After 7 hours, and installed 3 times, I still get to the point where I can't get it running. I get the music, the scree,. the bar goes to 100%. I have went into the training area- instant action and etc. I'll see if a night sleep and any other ideas help. Otherwise, seriously, life is too short to be frustrated to this level. I always have WOP with the P-51 and the FSX (OH I can't hardly stand it anymore) to fly the P-51 and will see if I can get a refund. How I love the props even more than jets but as i mentioned, at my age (60+) with thousands of hours in flight sims, I ain't got that much time left. Thanks to all

Careful with CCLEANER.

That sucker is very powerful and can cause damage for the unwary.

Perhaps you can gather some logs for us?

Please see post #1 here; http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=88164

The logs may give us a hint on whats going on.

Panzertab or others: Thank you. Here is my log from the last time I tried to run the sim (beta 2 or newest update version). ANd also attached is my crash log, which I can't open or read. I will send the DX Diag in another message.

Not sure I remember correctly, but this might have been a problem for someone else in the past...

Have you simply tried to unplug the X52 before starting the sim, among other unnecessary USB devices?

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse so can't undo that. I can and will try unplugging the X52, Something in the report i submitted show that the X52 is the culprit? Thanks

So from what I see there in your logs, correct me if I'm wrong:

- You start DCS and loads up a mission.

- It crashes while loading that mission?

From what I see / suspect - is that the crash happens as it's about to create the Breifing on screen.

Still trying to think of why - and provide a fix/workaround.

The CRASH may indicate that a crash was caused somewhere within the FSM - I have no idea what module that is.

But it is trying to 'normalize path' which may mean it's in the process of opening / looking for a file. But something bad really happened before it got there.

Which may lead us to "why isn't it able to find / open the file / normalize the path".

Potential Factors on your PC for a file related crashes/problem;

- C++ libraries, they both need to be installed and working.

- Antivirus blocking filerequests / lookups.

- A damaged filesystem (chkdsk c: etc).

- A damaged Windows / previous virusinfected PC.

- CCleaner removing too much info.

- A unforeseen problem within DCS.

These are all likely suspects if the evidence is correct - and I view it correctly. But only a Dev may be able to interpret that properly.

I understand you've been through a lot to try to fix your problem - although by the looks of it, it may be a factor on your PC.

I'm not sure if I can convince you to do a bit more troubleshooting?

A treatment for most of these problems can be found in the Troubleshooting thread; http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=88146

Start with the easy ones.

- Run a CHKDSK first, to make sure you got a healthy disk before adding / changing the files below.

- Reinstall C++, run Windows Update afterwards.

- Figure out how to remove / disable the Antivirus.

- Reinstall over the old DCS world + P51.

Just maybe one of these things can fix it.

Otherwise we may move on to the next steps.

First of thank you for taking the time to help. I've done all that you mentioned. Check disk, windows updates, disable the anti virus and firewall. I have tried to install in the programs 86 as I think that is how the DCS A-10 was when it was first in beta. Perhaps it is the CC cleaner?? I've always thought it a good program, but have heard others say it can result in problems. Oh and as far as the crash, it never gets anywhere. That is I have tried the training, instant action and I get the full screen in the beginning where i have those choices. But about 10 seconds into when I expect things are going ok- that is when I get a message that says DCS beta has stopped working. It is a message from Windows I believe. Maybe even with my windows updates, something is wrong. Yet I can continue to use A-10 and the the Black Shark; FSX. At this point, perhaps it is best for me to wait until the next beta release comes out and start again. If after all of this it still continues to be a problem, well then I guess I am out of luck. My sad story is, I would give up all my jets as I have always been a prop man whether it was FSX or Over Flanders Fields; Combat Flight Sims of all, I drool over the fact I can't get the P-51 in the air. Maybe there will be other ideas out there.

It's best to not install it in the program -folder. Causes all kinds of permission and file-access problems. just create a games-folder in the root of your hard drive and install the software there.

Also, post up your system specs, and-you'll not want to hear it - but are you absolutely sure you have Windows7 64 bit installed ?

Win 7 64 is installed. I have attached the DXdiag log earlier. In the first installs (I have tied over 8 times now of various methods) I let it go to the default folder which is in same place as Eagle Dynamics chose for the A-10 to go. So, there is an Eagles Dynamic folder and within that are my two subfolders called DCS-A-10 and DCS-World. I can hardly figure that is a problem? But I will make its own folder. I am willing to do anything. Thanks

hello dne.

Thank your for your incredible patience.

There just a few more exercises - and I want to make sure you really reinstalled the C++ libraries as well after the disk check/repair. I couldn't see that you mentioned it.

As well as what bengo suggested, together with removing the DCS config.

The order is important

- Visual C++ 2010 x64 and Visual C++ 2010 x86

- and then Windows Update

- Uninstall DCS World.

- Remove the "Saved Games\DCS" folder

- START + Run: %TEMP%

- This will open your temporary folder, clean up all the files you're allowed to remove. Some files may not be possible to remove now. In any case, your temp-folder should be here C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\Temp

- Install DCS World to the root of C: or D:, for example C:\DCS World or D:\DCS World

- Final step, Reboot.

And start DCS again and try the mission please.

Now these are the last of any 'normal' operations we can do for you on your PC, short of re-installing Windows.

PS, one last round of logs. This time, please provide all your content from "\Saved Games\DCS" - and ZIP/RAR it and attach it here.

One final round of analyzing your config after a fresh setup may never hurt.

It's best to not install it in the program -folder. Causes all kinds of permission and file-access problems.
The default DACL of the program files folder does not allow regular users to write to it, which is exactly as it should be. That's why you need administrator privliges (requires elevation when running Vista+ with UAC enabled) to write there.

After installation, all user writeable files should be stored in the user's profile (or another location where regular users have write access without administrator priviliges), which is the case with recent DCS titles (DCS:BS1 not included)

thanks, gone most of the day and now late at night in the part of the USA. Will give it another go sometime tomorrow. I am getting excited that there is hope because of some new things to try. And thanks to all who have contributed.

Enclosed are the files from the saved games. There will be two attachments. The most recent is logs1 and the oldest are just identified as logs. Same thing has happened. I followed your instructions and never got any further than I have ever gotten. I then did a restore on my computer but could not go back as far as I wanted-there fore I was at a point just 10 days ago. ANyhow did all the removal and re installation and keep getting the same message. I'll go fly A-10 as if it is a reinstall option for Win 7, I am not going to do that. To some, it may seem simple- to me- I cna't take a chance on messing my system up as it had happened years ago with Windows XP on another computer. SO, i will just wait for another beta patch and hope that it might work. But if I was to guess, I would think there is a better that i wiould get struck by lightning. Thanks for you help, I'll still try simple remedies but won't go to extremes to get it running.

So it fails to change resolution - not thats related to video & drivers - and windowed mode vs fullscreen.

Perhaps you could try to play around with other resolutions / windowed mode? As well as testing other video drivers?

I'm a bit puzzled over the driver info in your DxDiag - is this really complete?

Anyone out there with ATI Radeon who can tell me if these drivers are at the ocrrect version & time & date stamps?

Card name: ATI Radeon HD 5770

Not the official drivers?

info WHQL & size is empty - shouldn't be like that. It could be CCleaner doing a bit too much cleaning.

Perhaps you could get the official drivers from this place, dne.

In post 18 I sent you a link about how to use CCLEANER, did you have a look at that for future reference? It's not a bad idea to back up your registry before using that tool, either.

ALso, I don't konow if you did this, but did you try a new user account?

My course of action here would be to download the latest ATI driver, use whatever tool they have or tick boxes in the installer to remove/do a clean install, ovewriting the previous installation and reinstall with the latest drivers.

I'm wondering whether CCLEaner could have done some OTT cleaning, again, read the link I posted in post 18.

I've not been able to check this thread, but I hope you/we can get this sorted. I still feel a new user account and making sure that you install the game to a different location other than C: drive (even tho A10 is working fine) would be a good idea, along with a complete removal and reinstall of your ATI drivers.

The Devil is GONE

Panzertard-- Your suggestion to change the windows setting or minimize it is what did the trick. In the properties area of the DCS World Icon, I changed it to run at "Minimized' setting and that I "think" is what did it? I have full screen when in the missions and now I just have to get the controls and Trak Ir set up. Thanks for your assistance and the assistance of many others out there. What a relief

The logs got us on the right track.

The problem still remain if you play at fullscreen I assume. You should really try to nail it, and figure out why your PC setup refuses to run it at full screen. I still suspect something happened/happens in your graphic combination somewhere.

But at least now you can enjoy all the same bugs as the rest of us.

Happy flying :)
