Ok, so I've just climbed back in the Kamov after a few years out and finding it hard to get coordinated turns right. No matter what I do the thing just flies left or right and I can't seem to get it centred when turning. I've only flown fixed wing so I don't completely understand some of the techniques used for flying rotary, any advice you guys could throw my way would be appreciated.

Not a rotary flyer, so take it for what it is worth, but I'm doing pretty much the same thing in the Ka-50 as in aircraft. Bank to turn, step to coordinate. Same same but different.

However, I rarely look at the slip indicator as I find the beta wane out on the nose (the little 'flag') much more convenient.

Sooner or later someone will mention the four letter swear word begining with T.

What dampners have you on and is the Flight Director on? And what about forward speed?

If you don't believe it's a trim/autopilot issue are you sure of your currently trimmed state and were you centred before the turn?

I find there is a certain amount of slip that can creep in easier than a fixed wing but its only amounting to half a bubble, it's quite awkward centring exactly since the graphics are a bit hazy there.

Rotary-wing aligns it's velocity vector lot lower to nose direction while turning compared to fixed-wing. When you come out of turn you need to roll to level slower to allow the flight direction to catch up with nose direction. If you level right after achieving desired nose direction the helicopter will still be flying little bit in the old direction hence go sideways when you roll to level. And of course if you roll to level too slow you will slip to the turn direction. Otherwise keeping coordinated is just like in a fixed wing.
