When told to fire at a point the MLRS's missiles are landing short of the intended point of target. I have tried it with different countries and different vehicles and the same result occurs. The only difference is the distance the missiles are off target, always falling short. This seems to vary based on type and distance of the intended firing point from the launcher.

 

I have made sure to try this in mountainous and flat land areas, all giving similar results.

 

I have tried other artillery pieces and naval bombardments with canons and cruise missiles, all are on target.

 

I have also played with the zone radius of the fire at point option and all trials gave the same result.

place friendly ai units within observation distance of target so that it can relay the position of enemy to mlrs battery.

Thanks for the report. There were/are some known issues with indirect fire accuracy, I plan to test them all in detail when I get the chance.

In my case and I'm sure I've seen that elsewhere,

USA mlrs never fire. Only arty shoot.

Russia grad works, but not the other rockets launchers systems.

 

This is valid for bs2 and dcsw editor only. A10 works well

first it was an edit then...

Naaaaaah, my bad (almost) but encyclopedia is too limited to make some fast tests. i always need to spend the afternoon too see what's working and how :(

 

SO !

 

All MLRS works. it's just a range problem to me.

 

USA MLRS have minimum range (is about the max range or M109 arty) = 20km. They start shooting, and they land short :D so it's range is 20 -> 30km

USSR Grad range is 5 -> 20 km. Land short

USSR Smersh range is 20 -> 70km. BUT, they are landing short, so max range i could get was 38km (with a 70km fire point)

 

Now about miscalculation :

As i said, an afternoon testing (thank you Ramdisk for loading time) i came to that :

 

Rockets ranges are cutted by 25%. If you place a fire point to 30km, they will land at 24km.

For Smersh, it's applying for "short" range. For long range it's increasing, Simple method is the NM / KM translation. Fire point at 70KM -> land at 38KM (38nm = 70km) 1.8 ratio

 

My conclusion is everything is subject to change, because in DCS-A10, the USA MLRS can shoot way before 20km.

 

I've put some blue/red jeep near short landing and they're all dead ;)

 

i deleted my template mission but i can provide another one if interested.

 

Another thing : Bomblets explosions with MLRS and Smersh kills my computer, 1-5 fps. But it's beautiful.

I can't get the MLRS, Akatsia or Nona to fire at all in DCSW 1.1.2.1, even when I set task to "fire at point"

try to set a fire point near their max target zone. and provide your .miz file if it don't works. i will try it.

 

By "max target zone" do you mean maximum range?

yeah, the circle around them in ME.

The thing which keep me waiting 4mn even in accelerated time is to watch if their rockets pod launcher turns toward the target before firing. this is happenning within 30s

Set them to expert and they will take less time before they start firing. It's still a couple of mins though.

I was successful in getting it to fire at other armor, but not in getting it to fire at a designated point, or enemy structures. Don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or if there's a bug.
