Hi all,

I am looking at about buying a pair of TM Cougar MFDs for DCS A-10C.

Does anybody know the best online store to get them from?

Also sorry if this is a noob question but what do you use for the screens?

I have seen that the Cougar MFDs are just the buttons and stuff..... what do I use for the screens? A tablet computer? Because that would be f***ing expensive, lol:P

Please reply!

At the moment Spectre, i had seen cheepest place in amazon for 62 dollars.

People use several kind of screens, 7,8, 10 inchs for MCD, with usb connection like Lilliput or Mimo Screens, or, like many , 17 inches until 32,40 inchs for put MCD in a big screen with more instruments using Helios and another kind of software.

I had 7-8 inchs screen for MCD, Price in that moment for each screen: 100 pounds.

All that you want to do, all will be expensive, more or less, but expensive. By the way, if you want do something normal, with thinking just a little bit, you can save more money. I hope help you.

Almost any screen will do. Just attach the MFDs with velcro tape.

Thank you guys, this helped me a lot!

Just another thing to consider. The first display I played with for MFDs was a 15 or 17in 1280x1024 Dell that I picked up in a used computer shop for $50. It was perfect to handle the two side by side (velcro as mentioned above).

Then I discovered Helios and needed a much bigger monitor!:D

Yes. Helios with touch screen is an alternative. Some users even prefer these "virtual TM Cougar MFDs" to hardware ones. You don't need velcro tape. Some users think that real buttons are better. It's your choice. See the pic of Helios screen with MFDs:

I have both TM Cougar MFDs and touch screen. So, I removed the MFDs from my Helios screen and have my Cougars attached to an inexpensive Acer screen. All other buttons and switches and knobs are fully functional on the touch screen.

Wow FreeFall, that's awesome! I really should look at getting a screen like that to use with Helios.

Seems that there are not a very wide repertory of 1920 x 1080 23"-24" touch screens at the moment. Maybe they are not that popular products. Don't know the situation in New Zealand.

edit: I have a 23" HP, price was some 300 eur last year.

FYI and a bit OT -- I picked up the Acer T231H touch screen monitor through Amazon. It's 1920 x 1080 and ideal for Helios. Had it for almost a year and performance it great.

Cannot locate the off-topic.

Almost the same price tag as with my HP. I'm also a very happy customer.

Speaking of touch screen monitors, could I put one on my desk like a normal monitor, but be able to look around with track IR and touch all the switches and things?

Technically, yes. Somewhere around here is a thread where someone did something like that, but with multiple monitors.

I toyed with the idea when I got my Viewsonic but abandoned it. The bottom line is, if you pause TIR when you look at the panel you want your finger is as good as a mouse. The rest is up to you.;)

My Viewsonic was one of the few I cound find 22" 1920x1080 at around $300US about four months ago. I also needed one that could accept a standard VESA mount.

Funny, that idea never occurred to me. I just wanted to have a separate touch screen with Helios and all the switches, buttons, levers and handles.

The problem with multiple (rather large) displays is that you must make some arrangements to get them nicely placed on your desk. For example, if you wanna have your main screen on top of your touch screen, the normal stand may not be enough. So, I have chosen only monitors which have the VESA 100 mounting interface. Just like cichlidfan. You can then buy for example a special stand for three monitors. All monitors don't have VESA mount.

Last year I also saw some Viewsonic touch screens available. But now it seems my favourite dealers don't have them any more.

I just use an old monitor, I found Blu-tak is good for attaching them without leaving a mess.

Hi all,

Also sorry if this is a noob question but what do you use for the screens?

Please reply!

I'm using 2 Kraemer V800 8'' TFTs (connected via USB). Currently only one is mounted under one of the two MFD but I plan to integrate both TFT into a case with switches and buttons controled by an(programmable) x-keys Matrix Board (128 keys supported).

USB-Monitors are sufficient for displaying the MFCDs. And there is no need for an additional graphics card.

There is no screen that matches perfectly I think, so you will have to test.

My experiences so far: Well, it works (obviously) but the buttons of the Cougar MFD do not match exactly the labels in the MFD. and the edges of the MFDS are rounded so they cover a bit of the display (but not much).

but even with only one of the MFDs working I would miss them - even without a perfect solution so far.
