Conure Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Hey guys, I have been getting into BS2 and, annoyingly, when I turn my schkval on I drop temproarily from constant 30fps (locked) to about 16. I've been told this is because I am using a very old HDD (old Seagate 7200rpm Sata) and only 4gb of ram. As such I'm going to upgrade to an SSD and add another 4gb of ram. Could anybody confirm whether or not this will fix this issue? Thanks! PeterP Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 (edited) please drop a DxDiag.txt - so we have the whole picture. WindowsStart > Type "Dxdiag" > run all tests and attach the report to your next posting. EDIT: And also post the in-game settings and Gpu settings you are using/you want to use. Please don't forget to tell if you running windowed or fullscreen < this can make a very big difference for performance. In fullscreen windows don't have to track your desktop. So if your card is low on V-Ram it is even worse in windowed mode, because the desktop has to be stored along with DCS in the GPU. A short track that shows this behaviour is also very welcome. - so others can compare Edited June 10, 2012 by PeterP

EtherealN Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 When you are saying "temporarily" drop, are you meaning that it goes back up again? If so, this is not just a matter of HDD. This is because the simualtor is forced to start a secondary 3D graphics thread; you are now rendering the world twice from different viewports. Obviously, rendering two 3D environments is rougher on the hardware than rendering only one. EtherealN Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Hey Conure, if you have FRAPS, could you do the following: 1) Start FRAPS 2) Fly BS2 and cause the issue to occur, save track 3) Replay track with FRAPS benchmark active 4) Include full options.lua file 5) Include full FRAPS framtime data file (not only max/min/avg file) I could then compare on my rig and see if I can identify something. Conure Posted June 13, 2012 Author Posted June 13, 2012 Hey guys cheers for reply - I tried to get it to record FPS but it didnt come out on the video! I think maybe it's just my PC, but it's strange as I get 45fps in A10 with move the TGP and Mav cam on! Mustang Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 This issue sounds similar to the problem in this thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=89949 i take it you've tried 256 or 512 res of cockpit displays?
Conure Posted June 13, 2012 Author Posted June 13, 2012 Hi Mustang - thanks for your reply, I have tried that. Also tried with HDR off. Is it possible that the BS is just a more demanding aircraft, or is something definitely wrong here? I think maybe it's just my PC, but it's strange as I get 45fps in A10 with move the TGP and Mav cam on! Note: I'm not talking about recording a video and having the FPS counter show in that video - FRAPS has a benchmarking feature. Activate it during flight, and then post flight it will spit out a very neat Excel file that can be graphed. Used together with the relevant track file, exact comparisons between systems and configurations can then be made. :) Just ensure it includes frametime data - that is, you want it to record the rendering time for each frame, not just the min/max/avg for the entire run. PeterP Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 (edited) Please post your settings as I asked for them (#6)- otherwise everything will be a wild guessing. Up to now no one knows all the settings you are using. Edited June 13, 2012 by PeterP
