Maulkin Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 One thing I have been trying to figure out is how to put out an engine fire (in any aircraft). I understand that there are no extinguishers modelled (even though you can see the control for one on the A-10) but on many occasions I have hit an AI aircraft with guns and I manage to get one of their engines on fire, but they are somehow able to put it out, but when it happens to me I cant seem to do the same. In IL-2 I would simply turn off that engine, nose down, pick up speed and the flames would be blown out, but that does not seem to work in this case. Is it even possible to put out an engine fire? --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
Bimbac Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Easy solution Hi Maulkin, the way which I find the most useful is to cut-off the engine on fire: either by Shift+End for right engine or Alt+End for left engine (default keys). It works 85% for me ;)
Pilotasso Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Speaking of engine fires, I didnt realize LOMAC's damage modeling to be of much sofistication untill one day on a MP session both of my F-15 engines caught on fire during take off. Couldnt stop the plane in time so it skimmed the tarmac and slammed into the controll tower!! .
Maulkin Posted October 18, 2005 Author Posted October 18, 2005 I think that happens when you start the engines with the throttle full on? Is that how it happened? The other day I was doing the first Su-27 campain mission (what a bloody nightmare... F-16's and F-4's everywhere...) and I was in a hurry to take off so I gunned it and halfway down the runway I simply exploded. Don't know why that happened. So I have tried turning off the engine that is on fire but it never seems to stop the fire --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
Pilotasso Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Actulay now that I remenber that I have the bad habit of slamming the throtle to full power (like in the movies just for the fun of it) barely as the engine reaches idle power...perhaps it was that? ...and no I wouldnt be such a smart ass in a real aircraft, since throtle is much stiffer to advance than my loose old PC throtle. The only I ever flew myself didnt even had one .

Your mistake was that you pulled up too soon, because you didn't have sufficient speed, the engine nozzles hit the tarmac, resulting in engine fires, just like in Flanker 2.5, nothig fancy.
