Read the briefing fully to know where hostiles are located. Jump in the server, jump out and go to singleplayer. Load the multiplayer mission in the editor and check it out. The maps for the servers you join are copied to the DCS temp folder, unless something has changed.

sorry what?

I'm doing my own missions atm, so i know where they are ;)

If you have to explain everything in the Briefing, then you loose some fun on the battlefield.

If you don't say anything in the Briefing, you remove the fun completely. flying in enemy territory without intel is just suicide, like a KA-50 in Afghanistan.

Erich, I think you need to study more on pedia. It also doesn't hurt if you look at the shkval and cross-reference the friendlies position on ABRIS. Mostly if friendlies are intermingled with enemies, you'd need to know that friendlies are always giving you their backs, and vice versa.

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

What I did couple nights ago on the 159th Dedicated server, I turned on my Black Shark's Datalink and I just watched where the guys were going. I had a couple icon target lights come on. There is a push button to engage overhead that took me direct flight in auto-pilot, over-riding the waypoints, directly to the enemy target area. I do not know if the other guys had their data link turned on, but they showed up on my ABRIS screen.

If I am the only guy on, that won't work, though.

Yes, what you say is true. In the military and out hunting I never fired my rifle until I had a clear shot and definitely knew what I was aiming at. The same rifle discipline must be observed here.

It would seem to me, with the advanced technology being used, that the onboard Shkval would identify potential targets with an internal library of friendly versus enemy vehicle silhouettes to say yes or no. The older submarines of The Red October era, had an internal library of sonar signatures to identify potential targets be it enemy or not.

Thanks for the reply and advice.

Good idea.

The 104th's server is rather unforgiving as being setup as a real aircraft and no "cheats". I prefer this server once I get good enough not to need the "cheats" to learn from.

The 159th's Dedicated server allows keyboard keys: F4 my friendly aircrafts and a look-around in F2; F7 to see all gvs friendly or enemy and zoom out to see where they may be; F6 to look around while the missile is flying; and F11 to kind of get a look-see of where the enemy is as to which airport; and compare it to the terrain and then compare it to the F10 map sometimes works. Now that I have mentioned this they will change it.

Dont know if this is already mentioned but it is vital to have TrackIR (or simmilar) to move your sight freely! It is also vital to get the cockpit ZOOM assigned to a slider og wheel on your joystick to zoom in and out quickly! This must be the cockpit zoom as this is the only zoom you will have when playing on a hardcore MP server.

A week or two back I loaded up TacView version 1.2 . Like you do, I have to log out, review the track, and see what is going on.

I was flying Ka-50 into an area that had mostly already killed gv targets, but I kept getting nailed (2 simultaneous outings). So I used the TacView. I saw about where the manpad was located. Next time out I was not so eager approaching him and found a lone soldier with his Stinger launcher and nailed him with the standard laser-ranging missile the Ka-50 carries.

I read old posts to see how the topic evolves.
