Elnocho3 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Hi everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my computer very soon.......at long last :) and have a few questions. My main priority is flight sim performance, specifically, DCS-A10C and FSX (PMDG 737NGX+MyTraffic X+Radar Contact+REX....etc.). I don't change computers very often and have about a £700-1000 budget. So I would like to fly with awesome performance now, and have decent performance for the next 3-4 years. Firstly, here's what I was thinking: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) - overclock to 4.2+ghz ASUS P8Z77-V Intel Z77 Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard 8GB Mushkin BlackLine Frostbyte 2133 (PC3-17066) EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 2048MB OCZ 240GB Vertex 3 SSD Corsair H80 750W Antec HCP-750 What do you guys think about those specs in general, based on my objectives? Is there any point going for an i7 2600k or i7 3770k for my usage? Secondly, does anyone have any experience with using the Corsair H80? I've read they can be horrendously noisy. Which is putting me off. Any and all comments are welcome!!! PC spec: i9 9900KS @ 5.1ghz, 32GB RAM, 2 TB NVME M2, RTX 3090 Peripherals: TM Warthog, Saitek Pro Flight Pedals, Rift S, Custom UFC
Pilotasso Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Changing the CPU to 2600k or i7 3770k wont give you any extra perfomance for gaming unless you want to do 3D rendering and movie editing. Your choice of hardware is pretty spot on. My only suggestion would be to upgrade your PC with a better GFX later on. H80= awsome cooler, if your concerned about the noise you can always cram a couple of NOCTUA fans in there in place of the original fans. .
Cali Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Just built me a new computer and I went with a Antec 900 case and Zalman CPU cooler. Those 2 coupled together keep it running at idle 24-25c, I haven't seen what the temps are when I game yet. Might have a chance to test that tonight. My video card didn't get above 44c though. But I keep my house at 72 f degrees and the A/C vent is right the computer. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Rhinox Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 What do you guys think about those specs in general, based on my objectives? Add good SSD (sata 6gbps, synchro-mlc) and you will never regret it. A good one 128GB you can get for ~100-120€, i.e. Vertex3/4, m4, i330 etc. It's worth every penny...
kokoweems Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I have a H100 and yes it is very noisy with the stock corsair fans. The noctua fans are much quieter and offer the same performance, however they are expensive.
Krebs20 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I have the H70 cooler and I don't think its noisey at all. I set it to 70% all the time and it never needs to go any higher. The only fan I can ever hear in my case is the GFX card. I used to watch it when the system was new, but I don't anymore cause there's no stability issues. It didn't run very hot from what I remember. I use my computer in my basement. It's allows under 70f there. It defendantly helps the cooling, so factor that in. I would only call the cooler loud when the fans are over 80-90%. The are silent at 70% as far as I'm concerned. Overclocked at 4.4, it doesn't cause issues. I'm thinking of changing to 4.6 soon because o think it wont do any harm. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

That graphics card is nice but if your budget has a little wiggle room I would consider moving up a bit (don't go lower on VRAM though). Krebs20 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I would like to add something else. My friend just got the 3570k. He did not overclock it he also uses a 570 GFX card. He gets the same FPS as I do in DCS, he loads the same as I do in dcs. He loads other games faster. Example, Company of heroes. 5-10 seconds faster. So a stock 3570k runs slightly faster than my overclocked 2500k. I think the 3570k is the perfect match for dcs right now. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Elnocho3 Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 Sorry for the late reply, just want to say thanks to everyone for their advice. Im gonna go with that system then, but with a better graphics card too! Cant wait! Cheers! MadTommy Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I have H60.. dead quite.. most noise issues with the range of coolers appears to be incorrect installation methods. Which fan headers you use is important an varies on different mobos. i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz, Asus P8Z77-V, 8 GB DDR3, 1.5GB GTX 480 (EVGA, superclocked), SSD, 2 x 1680x1050, x-fi extreme music.
