JCamel Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Okay I'm trying to add an AI airframe but whereas some AI aircraft can attack things through triggered actions, some can't. Is there an unlock or something for certain aircraft? If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
Eddie Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 What aircraft, and what are you trying to have them do?
JCamel Posted July 7, 2012 Author Posted July 7, 2012 Right now I'm trying to get a Tu-160 to use a Kh-65 on anything. If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
Grimes Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Kh-65 is a precision strike cruise missile. Its not built to take out specific units. Use bombing to target a specific coordinate and use attack map object to take out objects that exist in the world by default. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Ripcord Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 (edited) Might be that you need some pretty good standoff range. My simple little test wasn't successful either, Grimes. EDIT: What did they have in mind here when they list range as 3.000 KM? Oftentimes Russians use , with numbers when we use . and vice versa. Does this suggest that this thing has a range of 3,000 klicks? Damn. Name: Kh-65 (AS-15B 'Kent') Type: Long-range, inertial-guided, nuclear cruise missile Developed: Raduga NPO, Russia TNT equivalent, kT: 200 Guidance: inertial and terrain comparison Weight, kg: 1700 G limit: 16 Length, m: 6.04 Body diameter, m: 0.770 Range, km: 3.000 Maximum Mach number: 0.77 Edited July 7, 2012 by Ripcord [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Grimes Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Works for me, see attached mission. Note, use DCS World 1.1.2.1 for the file.Kh-65 in DCS World.miz The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Ripcord Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I was able to make it work on my second attempt -- just needed to get some serious standoff distance. Interesting flight profile those things have -- pretty much skim along the surface of the ocean (I targetted facilities in Poti), probably a bit like a tomahawk. Very cool. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

(Even though the data is technically wrong as the Kh-65 was reduced to 280km range in compliance with SALT-2. It was the Kh-55 that had 3000km range.) JCamel Posted July 7, 2012 Author Posted July 7, 2012 Works for me, see attached mission. Note, use DCS World 1.1.2.1 for the file. Cheers, I'll try that. Have you tried using a Tu-22M3 with 3xKh-22s on an aircraft carrier. If you have the Backfire doing 1200kts and then flick to F10 to watch the speed of those things across the map. If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
JCamel Posted July 7, 2012 Author Posted July 7, 2012 Works for me, see attached mission. Note, use DCS World 1.1.2.1 for the file. Ah, what is DCS World 1.1.2.1? I just have A-10C, as of about a week or so ago? The file won't load in Mission Editor. If you give me some basic details about the target, ranges and triggers or waypoint action I can try and duplicate it though. If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
JCamel Posted July 7, 2012 Author Posted July 7, 2012 Finally got it to launch a Kh-65. It crashed into a mountain. The terrain following radar obviously needs work. If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
JCamel Posted July 7, 2012 Author Posted July 7, 2012 (edited) LOL - hit wrong building this time. It appears to be non-nuclear in this game despite encyclopedia. Edited July 7, 2012 by JCamel If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
Ripcord Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Cool - glad you got it working. In the test I did, the tu-160 was out over the black sea and my target was right on the coast, so I really can't comment on the terain-following radar on those things. There are lot of AI weapons systems to try here, I think. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
JCamel Posted July 7, 2012 Author Posted July 7, 2012 Very, very glitchy editor. If I set something up for a pinpoint strike (loaded with JSOWs) with a B1-B and set the weapon to auto, it will drop one. If I try set the weapon to 'guided bombs' (i.e. JSOWs), it stops working. If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
