Okay, so maybe not. Still, I'm hoping to get pretty close. : )

Hello, guys. Not sure if "hello" threads are frowned upon here or not, but I didn't see anything against it in the rules. Ordinarily, I don't bother with greeting threads when joining a forum, but a super-realistic P-51 sim is special. (I'd rather it be a super-realistic P-38 sim, but that's another story.) These old birds are, literally, the love of my life. There is nothing that can be touched which I love more than the Lockheed P-38, and the P-51 isn't lagging too far behind.

I flew most of the old sim-games which claimed (rightly or wrongly) to be realistic. Red Baron II, IL-2 Sturmovik, Aces High II, Lock On: Modern Air Combat. Last sim I flew was Rise of Flight, which has great flight physics, but isn't a true flight simulator in the sense of teaching you how to operate every aspect of the real aircraft being simulated, because R.o.F. (like all of the other titles I listed) has simplified engine & systems management.

I flew R.o.F. because it was the most realistic flight sim I could find. But my heart has never been in the crazy little kites of the Great War, with their viciously tight & reflexive knife fighting, but rather my heart has been with the graceful, powerful, beautiful fighters of the Second World War. They are magical. And now, for the first time, there is, evidently, at long last, a high-fidelity simulator of one.

The only real barrier standing between me and the virtual cockpit of this lovely bird these people at Eagle Dynamics have modelled are some questions of copy protection. I'm really hoping I can get these sorted out--the moment I do, I'll be in the virtual sky with you all. Here's hoping. Cheers.

yep, welcome here ,

its not all about vintage here although for some it is now it seems. the a-10 will show spectacular marvels in just how deep its digital systems are implemented. and ka50 will give you a shock course in how different russians percieve avionics and the rest... and simply deploying weapons all on all formats is just superb and in depth.

The virtual tuskegee Airmen have a server predominatly dedicated to flying the p51. so pop along, and teamspeak too. and hope the copy protections woes get cleared, its worth it round here.

ohh and not to forget to mention whats shaping up to be a fantastic 3rd party development "arena". microsoft maybe canning there staff, but here flightsimming is more alive and contextually correct and hopefully ED can take that mantle that once was in many areas.

Welcome !

I have fallen for the P-51 as well, I did not think it would happen but these old birds have so much charm and history.

I recently visited Duxford and got to look up close and personal with many P-51's and when I spotted Ferocious Frankie it gave the simulated one in DCS so much more for me.

Enjoy your flying, if it makes you as happy as me we are all very lucky :)
