Major problem--I cannot load control profiles in DCS World. The buttons for saving and loading profiles are not even highlighted & clickable unless I click on a mappable function, and then they highlight but the load button does nothing. I created a second profile just to check if it needed more than one, but that didn't change anything.

Edit: I've made a video demonstrating the problem:

As a side-note, this also presents a less-serious bug (in addition to the main one of not being able to load profiles); I cannot save a profile unless I have a function/binding actively selected (as in, I've clicked on it, as if I were going to change it). While annoying (and potentially frustrating to new people who are not aware of how to do it), at least it lets me save, unlike the load.

Delete your Saved Games>DCS>Config folder. The sim will recreate them when you restart. That should fix it.

I presume I should first move my profile files out of that directory? Which files are critical?

Or do I need to delete them altogether and completely redo all of those bindings?

You can save whatever you wish and try putting them back. It is difficult to know which one is corrupt. I am not sure what you mean by 'critical'. All of those files are generated on the fly from files within the sims install folder. You may well need to redo all of your bindings depending on what you can copy back in without breaking it again.

I renamed the directory, and a new one was generated by World. However, the problem persists. I tried saving a new profile into "Saved Games\DCS\config" (the old one was saved in "Saved Games\DCS"--which is the correct location, or doesn't it matter), but it still won't open any load dialog box when I click the button, and both the load and save buttons are available only when I've clicked on a function.

The load and save buttons should only be available when you click on a function. Until you do that, the sim does not know which controller you are trying to load/save a profile for.

To load or save a profile. Click on any function in the column for that specific controller. Then load or save.

The ins and outs of this are covered in the GUI manual which does not exist for world yet. However, the GUI manual for A-10 covers this as well and it can be downloaded from here.

I'm running into the same problem. I've deleted the Saved Games>DCS>Config folder, I am clicking on a function for the said controller. I am able to save, but unable to load. I click the button and hear the button click sound but no window opens. I've tried loading the game as administrator and regularly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My specs are as follows:

win7 pro 64 bit

i7-920

24mb ddr3

2x 550ti

controllers:

x52 & combat flight pedals

Could this have something to do with the dreaded SSD issue of having DCS run from the default folder?

I don't know, but I don't have a solid-state drive, myself.

Really wish they would iron out all these bugs preventing people from accessing their sim, before they start releasing brand new stuff

I have had so many people try to get involved in the game, only to give up after 4-5 hours of bashing their head against the wall, and that is before they even get into the cockpit

I hate to be a grouch, especially given how well the sim itself is crafted, but a serious bug like this which is going unaddressed is causing me to have second thoughts about having ordered DCS: A-10C. Will I be unable to customize my controls in A-10C? What else won't work for me? I'm now wondering if I should send it back before opening the box.

Sounds like you have the wrong "Aircraft Control mode" selected.

- Select "A-10C Sim" for realistic controls or similar "xxx Sim" for other Aircraft

- click on one of the boxes under your intended Controller(e.g. Joystick HOTAS Warthog) > Header turns blue, and the box is highlighted

- then follow the GUI manual to add or change input etc.

When a Controller column is highlighted you may save the settings for THIS controller (Save profile) or load the settings from a previously saved file!

CAREFUL! There is no indication other than the file name, so you may accidently overwrite your joystick profile with the Keyboard profile if you don't concentrate. Always double-check... from experience :D

...and yes it is complicated, but the flexibility is unmatched as far as I know. Any USB-Device registering as a HID can be configured from XBOX Gamepads, a multitude of standard Joysticks, HOTAS to self developed USB Controllers... awesome!

Yes we understand the procedure, it is not a question of hitting the right buttons here.

It is simply that the load profile button never becomes accessible, ungreyed if you will, no matter what is done

Is DCS tracking this bug? Has anyone encountered a work around. Are others that are reading this having a similar problem.

I created a ticket in the support system about four days ago. One of the ED testers said to let him know if it never got answered--I'm going to give it another few days, although the support system said 48 hours was the expected delay.

I never got this to work either. The good thing is that once you have it set up, even if you uninstall the game, you control profiles remains so there is always a copy of it \users\documents\savedgames\dcs\config\input directory.

Just in case though, I have taken screenshots of each and every control screen and any axis tuning I've done so that if I ever lose my control setup, I can at least quickly manually configure my controls.

I have numerous tickets open with ED as well but I think they are swamped. They do answer each one though over time and a lot of times, the fix will be in the release notes of the next patch.

It's not perfect but I think it's a sacrifice I can reluctantly make to play this sim.

When you uninstall and reinstall (on the same pc of course) and dont delete the saved games directory, your control settings will be intact and you dont have to redo the controls. That for me negates the need for save config/load config settings. Hope that helps.

Interesting. Is this true even if the file is named differently than the default? E.g. "Echo A10C keyboard.lua" instead of "keyboard.lua"?

Posted

hmm, not sure. I just leave all my controls .luas their default names so not experienced there. However, if all names and directories are left default during install, it won't overwrite it in a reinstall.

Well, I've tested it (at risk of having to completely redo all of my binds), and it works. Here's the procedure:

I clicked on one of the keyboard functions and saved my profile to a file called "Echo38 A-10C keyboard.lua".

Then I clicked the "clear category" button while in the "all" category, and then saved the profile as "keyboard.lua". This cleared all key binds.

I shut down the sim and then went to my C:\Users\Echo38\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\A-10C in Windows Explorer, deleted the now-useless keyboard.lua, and created a copy of "Echo38 A-10C keyboard.lua." Upon renaming this copy to keyboard.lua and opening the sim back up, my key binds were back.

So, yes, this (fairly clunky) workaround does work to preserve control bindings despite the load profile function being bugged. : )
