aeross60
I receive this message after clicking on any play button( ie. Instant Play) in DCS World v1.2: "DCS World Has Stopped Working" crash to desktop. I have no modules loaded in DCS World. My independent version of DCS Blackshark v1 works great on my VISTA 64 OS. I repaired/updated C++ redist. for both 64 and 32. I'm bummed :( I was ready to buy BS2 and I will as soon as this problem is resolved. Thanks for the help in advance. hawk4base
Hi aeross60 Can you give more details on the CTD , have you check for dcs crash logs, you can find them in c:\users\yourname\savedgames\dcs\logs, maybe you check the windows eventlogs. just click start-> Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools ->event viewer -> windows logs -> applications
aeross60
Thanks Hawk, The LOG showed it failed due to a resolution change. I matched resolutions and it now works. Thanks again. Andre UPDATE: Do I need to Reinstall DCS World again (AS ADMINISTRATOR this time) to be able to run DCS in 1080 by 720 resolution? sanctuary1
Hi all I got this today will trying to play DCS World BS 2 standalone......if you can help it would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes in campaign missions I get the crash to debriefing room or CTD saying something to the affect that this program(DCS World) closed due to...I forget the rest...but it normaly crashes when I press a key on keyboard or move the throttle and or rudder on the joystick. Vinny002
Hi, guys! When I run the DCS world for about 13 hours then I get the DCS world has stopped working message as well. I deleted the DCS world, re-installed DCS world, and now I'm running the DCS world with the graphic settings at medium. Thanks! G433k3a6l3
Hi all and merry Christmas! I am posting here because for the last 4-5 months since a specific update (now unable to remember which one) I have the same problem to OP. Loading DCS World and in 10% crashing to desktop. Now I saw that all of the modules require at least 6GB RAM to run. I have only 4GB ram and until the update I spoke of above, the game was running almost fine. Could this be the problem not allowing me to run the game at all? And if yes, why did you change the min requirements and made the game unplayable for so many of us who when they bought the modules didn't have any problem with their systems spec? An additional question which is a bit off-topic. If I use the registry key to delete all activation data, should I run seperate keys for every module and do I lose an activation or not? Thanks in advance for any reply. Regards. Edited December 24, 2014 by G433k3a6l3

G433k3a6l3
Thanks for bothering with my problems Flagrum. Much appreciated! 1) Still having 4GB RAM, so not up to minimum requiremements 2) I have seen people who run DCS having 4BG Ram and all updates installed 3) Why the error doesn't say what is the problem, not even a specific code of error to translate? Even after posting the log, nobody answered to what is causing the crash at 10% of loading procedure.
Flagrum
I fear, most people really stopped bothering because of 1). It is basically pure luck that DCS runs in this case ("2)"). You can try to lower all settings you can lower (detail level, screen resolution, etc. - everything that might reduce the memry usage) - maybe it might help. Try to run as little other programs as possible when starting DCS - no utility programs that run in the background (i.e. as little icons as possible in the system tray!) and ofc no other running applications (email programs, browser, etc.). You might even have to revert to an earlier version of DCS. Regarding point 3) Because it is difficult to tell. Actually it does say what the problem is: "C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at DFCD2C96 00:00000000". That means, the program has tried to access memory that did not "belong" to the program. This can have many (like trillions) of reasons - from silly simple programming errors over complicated and rare cases that normally never should occur. Believe it or not, but "having not enough memory" is rather at the more complicated end of reasons that can result in such errors. The thing is, under windows you almost never run really out of memory. The operating system usually takes care that a program can use memory when it asks for it - and if it has to suspend other programs temporarily, saving it's memory to the hard disk, and allowing your program to use that memory ... temporarily. And then there are other cases, where this will not work - because the way the memory is to be used (i.e. stuff that the graphics card needs often can not be redirected to or from the hard disk - because that is too slow) Therefore it is difficult for any program to determine if there will be "enough" memory for it to run when it is started. Because it just "depends". And now, when all physically installed memory and the virtual memory on the hard drive is all clogged up, a tiny programming oversight (those dreaded "should never occur"-errors) can then finally crash your program. For example, it needs just a few bytes more to store the value of a variable - and just before, it was no problem to allocate several megabytes - and now windows suddenly and "out of the blue" says, sorry, can't do that! But the program, while not anticipating this, just continues, ignoring windows, and tries to work with that variable ... with that few bytes of memory ... that windows has not given to the program ... and when it accesses it, that ACCESS VIOLATION occurs - the windows way to say "YOU! CAN! NOT! PASS!". tl;dr: it is COMPLICATED. ;o) edit: about downgrading your DCS instalation to a previous version: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030 Edited January 7, 2015 by Flagrum
G433k3a6l3
Thanks again for replying my friend. I can get the difficulty of error translation in practically explaining what exactly is the reason for the crash. I just wonder why isn't there any specific error about my RAM if it is low to run DCS.
Flagrum
Thanks again for replying my friend. I can get the difficulty of error translation in practically explaining what exactly is the reason for the crash. I just wonder why isn't there any specific error about my RAM if it is low to run DCS. Because it is ... complicated. The devs could implement a check to ensure that a certain amount of memory is available. But that would restrict them and their customers. "6GB minimum" is just a simplification. Really relevant is the amount of free, usable memory. But that, again, "depends". Two PCs with the same amount of RAM installed will differ greatly in the amount of free RAM that DCS can use. Windows itself occupies a good amount of RAM, depending on what drivers are loaded, what background tasks are running, how long it is running, etc. So any estimation for a safe bet on how much free RAM their program needs would have to be conservative. Maybe something like "6GB minimum (physically installed) = 4GB free RAM". That way users with 16GB RAM could still only use those 4GB - because the devs want to be on the safe side. Unsatisfactory, isn't it? That is the downside - if we want flexibility, there is some risk that certain system configs can't handle that flexibility ... The problem here, why it is so difficult to just let DCS just report "Sorry, too little RAM!" is, that the initial problem occurs very deep inside of the code in places where the program(mer) can't really tell what the overall reason for the tiny specific problem there is. At that level of detail, all you can tell is that something went wrong, but not really which consequences this will have. Imagine a tiny screw that is part of a an aircraft. If that screw gets loose or breaks - which consequences will that have for the aircraft? Will it crash? Will the fuel consumption be higher? Will it fly as if nothing has happened? From the perspective of that screw it is impossible to say - it "depends".
Appeljack
Hi folks, I'm getting the "This program has closed due to ...." message, too. I've recently purchased Black Shark 2 from Steam, and everything was running fine. I have 3 monitors up and working, finally, after fiddling with settings, etc. I started the Deployment campaign and made it through the fifth mission. When I try to continue to the sixth mission, Narzan Valley, it crashes with the error "Cannot load the debriefing file." If I try to play this mission by loading outside of the campaign, from the list of missions, it let's me in, with 3 monitors. If I change my monitor setup to 1 monitor WITHIN the campaign, it let's me in! So it seems something is happening with 3 monitors within the campaign. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
