...would there have been a No-Fly-Zone over Syria by now?

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

No. Why would the F-22 be required? Also, polls showed that Americans were already mostly angry about the Libyan intervention, adding Syria to the mix would seriously piss off the electorate... and it's an election year.

And production ended on the F-22, not the program.

There's no need for F-22 over Syria...single wing of conventional airsuperiority 4th gen fighters can do the same job.

IMHO there's 190 Raptors produced and that's enough for world domination.

When an idiot is displaced, you have to be very careful about the idiots who displace them. Syria have some half decent weaponary and I'll bet a significant sum of money that at least some of the rebels are Hezbollah and Al-Quaeda. I'd rather leave the chemical weapons and missile technology with Assad. He's the less unstable idiot.

Taking Libya as an example. Torture is even more prevalent now than before Gaddafi had a pole stuck in his ass. We need to think more carefully about foreign intervention. Then there's the cost side of it - there was a reason the F-22 programme was ended in the first place. The military budget has been sliced from $700bn to $600bn and adhoc wars of convenience will not help matters.

Yes, probably not a good idea to start this thread. Close it maybe?
