minimi66 Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Hi all, I might be missing something extremely obvious but having downloaded CA, registered it and gone into DCS World to start playing it.....i can't??? The CA button in the lower left of the DCS World screen does nothing other than change the wallpaper and there seems to be no other way to start the CA style of play? When i tried to play it via A-10 or Black Shark i got asked to register P-51D which i have the beta version of (unregistered) but i don't want to play P-51D i want to play DCS CA??? The are no other options or controls available as far as i can see to get me into the CA GUI or game? What am i missing guys? Can someone give any advice or assistance? Many thanks. Btw, it is going to keep asking for the P-51 license since you apparently installed it. The fact that it is Beta does not matter. One other thing, those buttons at the bottom have nothing to do with starting a 'game'. minimi66 Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Ok thanks guys, I have now managed to get into the CA game via the Missions option in DCS World. It appears that the P-51D registration issue was what was preventing me getting in. So, $39.99 poorer but at least i'm in? Problem now is that when i click on a unit in Map View and attempt to Add Path or Add Target the whole Game CTD's to Windows every time??? As for looking in the CA manual,i thought i had read here on the forum somewhere that there was no manual for CA? Which seems utterly bizarre given the level of detail afforded to the manuals for A-10C and BS2 etc? Again, if i'm missing something and there is a manual then please direct me to it? I couldn't see any means of actually commanding a unit or entering 1st Person mode either, the CA interface seems very sparse and basic to say the least? But if i'm on the wrong track then please let me know, so far have to say i'm pretty unimpressed with it! Pity as i was really looking forward to getting stuck into it. All help most appreciated from those who replied above. Thanks fellas. minimi66 Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 No 1st Person Command View button in F10 View? Well i've read the manual and the first thing i've noticed is that i have no first person command view button in the upper left of F10 map view so i am unable to command any unit in any of the missions i've tried so far? Using RAlt - j keyboard command does nothing either and now i no longer get asked which game role i want to choose before the mission commences? Have tried changing the available game roles via the mission editor but this does nothing either? This really is pretty crap! Think i'll stick to Total War for RTS gaming? slug88 Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 You have to first select a unit in the F10 (map) view before the control first person button appears. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Relent Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) When you are in the mission editor, there is a check box at the upper right (after you select the mission commander/CA button on the toolbar at left) that says something like "aircraft/pilot can control ground forces". That needs to be checked. Furthermore, if a MP mission, you have to indicate on the right how many slots are available for ground commanders, etc. For blue and/or red. After saving and starting the mission, go to the map/F10 and select a unit, or hit F7 until you find a unit you want and hit Alt-j . You can't control (in 1st person) civi or radar SAMs or rocket artillery. Edited August 8, 2012 by Relent
minimi66 Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 Ok guys will try all of the above although i was already clicking on the unit prior to attempting to give it orders etc? More likely to be the settings in the Mission editor that need checking as you say above. Many thanks again. minimi66 Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 Nope! Still no luck with any of the above? Have checked the Pilot can command Ground Units check box in Mission Editor Battlefield Commander tab. Loaded one of the Single Player US Company Advance Missions, clicked on each one of the US units in turn (all of them eventually) and the 1st Person Unit Command Button never appeared once, Alt -j didnt work either? Should it really be this difficult, is anyone else experiencing this issue or anything similar? Maybe someone from ED would like to comment rather than relying on the ever helpful forum members alone? Not a happy bunny at the moment? Is there a way to uninstall CA and then re-install to see if that solves the problem? A-10C, BS2 and P-51D all work perfectly but CA is just not playing? Once again many thanks to all who have tried to assist so far, any more ideas would be appreciated? 159th_Viper Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Lol! No joy with screenshots either? Still not working though? No sign of 1st Person Command Button in any mission tried so far? Gutted! Let's start at the beginning and verify the integrity of your install before sending you off to create missions on your own for the purposes of testing. To do so, attempt to start and run one of the canned missions provided with the SIM as per the following instructions and accompanying screenshots: 1: Open SIM and select MISSION tab 2 and 3: From drop-down menu, select CA and click OPEN 4 and 5: Select ENG from drop-down menu and click OPEN 5 and 6: Select SINGLE from drop-down menu and click OPEN 7 and 8: Select mission from drop-down menu and click OPEN (current mission Kislovodsk) 9: Read Briefing and press FLY 10 and 11: Choose role (Ground Force CMD) and press START 12: Unpause via pause key on keyboard 13: Press F7 from map view and navigate to preferred ground unit 14: Press RAlt-J to occupy unit 15: Have Fun Is the above working on your install and are you able to play the mission? If not, your install is probably borked: Uninstall by removing the module from your DCS World/Mods/tech folder and reinstall again and see if that helps. If the above is working, then we need to investigate/explain further re custom mission building. 1 Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? minimi66 Posted August 10, 2012 Author Posted August 10, 2012 Hey Viper, many thanks indeed for the detailed and helpful walkthrough. I have however i think found the issue? It appears i had a previous version of DCS World that i was trying to use with the latest version of CA? I noticed the version number in the bottom right of the DCS World screen and noted it was older than the version of CA i had. I understand both versions have to be the same i.e. 1.2.0.63205 Am just in process of installing new version of both and will hopefully then be in business. Will post if i have any issues but thanks to all who offered assistance. Couldn't see the wood for the trees as it turned out! What a numpty! Thanks again.
