rss0900 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 OK I'm using a GTX 590 and 3 28" displays. I understand the concept of the Nvidia surround option but how do I get a 4th display working? The GTX 590 has 3 DVI inputs only. A splitter perhaps?
PeterP Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 splitter ? - for what - getting a dublicate of one of the three possible monitors?
rss0900 Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 splitter ? - for what - getting a dublicate of one of the three possible monitors? Well Peter thanks for taking the time to post an answer, now can you actually provide one that might be helpfull? If I knew the answer I would not have posted the question.
PeterP Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) No - I don't think it works out as you wish with a single card from NVidia. Lets wait what others are telling. -anyway- helpful or not :I was asking a question to get a Idea what you really after. again: what do you mean by "splitter" ? Edited August 18, 2012 by PeterP
rss0900 Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 I admit I don't the know much about this yet but I did finally find the answer on the EVGA forums. The GTX 590 does support 4 monitors in surround 2d but not 3d. The 4th monitor uses a mini display port on the card, which sure enough after looking there it is. Never realized what it was before. I searched and search for hours tonight but could not find this until just now.
PeterP Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) (sorry if this sounds now arrogant - I heard it often in the last weeks - I just asking for info!) thanks for coming back- your original info: The GTX 590 has 3 DVI inputs only. A splitter perhaps? My next question after the answer what a "splitter" means for you would be if you can tell if this DVI-D or S ports... But now I know that it has also a Display-port (= equivalent to a DVI-D port)... see - it possible to attach four monitors. ... and you found it out yourself. splitter ? - for what - getting a dublicate of one of the three possible monitors? Well Peter thanks for taking the time to post an answer, now can you actually provide one that might be helpfull? If I knew the answer I would not have posted the question. rss0900 Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 none taken or detected from this side PeterP, I know sometimes we ask dumb questions and get dumb answers back :) Part of life, laugh and go on.
PeterP Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) no - I asked no "dump" question . I just wanted to gather more info. It's your interpretation that made it sound "dump" for you. ... remember : there isn't sometime like a "stupid" question - it's always the answer that let it look stupid! Swaty Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) Hello rss0900 how many PCIe slots have your motherboard? Mine have 3, and I use all of the them to drive 4 monitors. All you need is a second GPU, no need to be an expensive one and connect the extra monitors. By the way I haven't seen anything dump from Peter so far Edited August 18, 2012 by Swaty [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My Pit
Swaty Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Further more I had another GPU (GTX 9800) , dead now :( to drive MFD's 8'' monitors, here is the diagram: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My Pit
rss0900 Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 Hey, Thanks Swaty. I always thought the GPU's had to match up and I was not about to drop that much on another gtx 590. I've still got one slot free so yeah something like a 7900 series card may do if the mini port does not work. Power supply is 1000watt so I think I still have room to add. Thanks again
