Anyone know how to assign keyboard presses to Helios? I have a Helios button that I would like to assign to a key combo, say CTRL+G, but I have forgotten how to do this. Thanks!

Given that your profile is assigned to your sim correctly you select the button and then (on default layout) in the middle below you see two tabs: "input" and "output".

Input is to get sim information into Helios like gauges and output to get commands out of Helios to the sim.

So select the "output" tab.

Then you should see "DCS" and "keyboard" or "output"..don't remember exactly cuz its half a year ago I had a profile open.

DCS lets you link your button directly to available sim mapping.

For simulator commands that are not supported or simulator unrelated functions you go to "keyboard" or "output" (again not sure..I can check tonight after work) then you should be able to assign a key stroke or combination.

It also should tell you how to write combinations like Ctr+C with what brackets etc.

If that's all BS and I remember wrong I will check tonight (which is your early morning) :)

I think it's the other way around :D I've spent all afternoon assigning commands via the Input tab. Output is when Helios deals with the output from the sim and displays it, like gauges and such.

So obviously I am looking at the Input tab. I have most of my buttons on Monitor 5, but the "keyboard" interface is also under the Actions box, and it does not appear in the Bindings box...

This is for BMS BTW... unfortunately don't have A10 installed anymore but I do remember I did something like this before, but most likely have been in A10 rather than in BMS.... though I don't understand why, if it is even possible, will I be able to assign buttons to keyboard commands in DCS but not in BMS.

Thanks for the help, would really appreciate any confirmation of my problems.

First you have to select the button on the virtual panel you wish to assign a function. Then you choose keyboard in profile explorer, then go to output, interfaces, keyboard and send keys. Drag it into bindings and write the key combo {CONTROL}g. I know you have to have correct monitor selected in the upper row, if you're in DCS or keyboard screen, you won't see correct input/output.

:) I was sure it has to be output but don't have Helios at work :D so I might be wrong

With input you might be able to push a keyboard button to trigger a Helios button, hehe.

...actually what PlainSight describes sounds very familiar! Stick to what he says.

...output etc :-p

Select the Control you want to map to a keyboard command. Select the output tab in the bindings. Find Send Keys onto the Trigger Event you want to send the keyboard command. Select static value for the output and enter the keyboard command into the text box. There should be basic help text on screen telling you the special character entry options.

Found it. Thanks guys and thanks Gadroc. I was searching and searching for a way to get "Keyboard" to appear as one of the interface tabs at the center of the screen. Apparently all I needed to do was double-click the "Keyboard" line on the Profile Explorer window.

As to why you can add interfaces via the Add Interface button but not the Keyboard is beyond me.

Annoying how I've now realized I've learned this THREE BLOODY TIMES NOW... hope to not-forget it and made a post over at SimHQ for this alone. LOL!

Oh yes, I remember when I started with Helios .... two programmers from my work and me in the middle of my old laptop trying to bind keyboard commands to a pop-up-menu in the sim.

At least it worked, two weeks later I tried to add an other command and was starting .. from the scratch.

If it runs .. great !! But no easy way to success.

Now I havent touched my profile for weeks. last big task was to add TFS3 support.

Good that you figured it out !

That is not possible and not intended to be achieved by Helios!

Helios is for gauges and buttons.

This has always been done by DCS itself and there are many threads on this forum that will help you with that.

here is one of them:

Gadroc im having trouble figuring out how to get the MFD images from DCS to my Second monitor using Helios. Can you give pointers on that pls.

Watch my How to Video in signature, using the VC Server tool to get MFD's to second monitor. Then setup helios the way you want. Just ignore the parts for hawgtouch if ur not using that. Definitely Read the Dummie Guide PeterP suggested It helps explain more!

Why on earth would you run another program to export MFDs, when it can be done by a few file edits?
