lrdangel Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I am a long time simmer but don't post very much. I guess you could say I just troll the forums for information, news and guidance. However, I just wanted to chime in about FC3 from my perspective and of course this is only my opinion and does not reflect anyone else. I fly with an online squadron, we are a small group but have very big imaginations. In the past we flew Lock On, FC and FC2 and enjoyed all the nuisances the sim brought forth. We have our own mission editors so the sky was the limit for what we flew each week. After a while we moved into Black Shark and ultimately A10C, which we have been flying now for over a year. Though we love the Warthog, we are thrilled with the release of DSC World. Why? Because we now have the ability to fly the SU25T, and now we have a true SEAD role. Our pilots love this plane from the days of FC2 to now. We are enjoying the diverse roles that are now presented...BS, A10C and the SU25T. Now with FC3, we will be able to have a full diversity of roles available. SEAD, STRIKE, CAP ... etc... Are all the planes high detail like the A10C? No, but I already knew and understood that from the beginning. I love that they updated the F15 and some of the flight characteristics but more importantly I love that our squadron will now have other choices. Though I enjoyed all the training our squad has put into flying the BS and the A10C, I kind of like the fact that the new planes will be more simplified. This allows us to jump in and quickly learn the controls and start flying our missions. So, the FUN factor is very high right now. I understand there are bugs with this and bugs with that, our squad has seen them especially in MP but we have found ways around them. ED is well aware of the issues from what I have read and I have full faith in them to fix the issues and get the sim working as best as possible. In the mean time, we work around the issues and still have FUN. (Notice the keyword? FUN?) Our squadron loves the sims and all that ED has done. There is simply know one else out there that has delivered the quality that the have brought us. We also thank ED for opening up the doors to 3rd party developers. This is going to elevate this sim to new heights and if you use your imagination, the sky is the limit. (BTW, drooling over the new Mig 21 coming soon). So with that said, I just wanted to give ED and everyone that is associated with them a BIG THANK YOU!! I also want to give a BIG THANK YOU to all in the forums that bring true value and information to the sims. When we all come together and work together, great things happen. seikdel Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Here here! I have no previous experience with LOMAC, but boy oh boy was it faster to learn the Su-25T. Whereas it took me a couple of weeks to get the Shark off the ground (and a couple more to get it back on the ground in one piece), I was doing gun runs and dive-bombing inside of a couple of days in the Frog. As long as I can talk my other half into it, I'll be picking up LOMAC and FC3 on release =)
Echo38 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I am not at all a fan of simplified avionics, but I guess stuff like F.C.3 ultimately helps things like A-10C and P-51D, so, thumbs up, I guess, even though F.C.3 isn't for me.
GGTharos Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Yes, it does help the DCS crowd. There are usually significantly more sales of simpler things than more complex things. GGTharos Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 'Seems' is meaningless. What counts are the sale numbers, which you won't have access to. According to ED simple sells. You're not obliged to believe them of course, but I imagine they know how to count their beans. RagnarDa Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 ... I could have written the exact same thing. Really looking forward to FC3 and I am so thankful of ED releasing such great products to a so small but demanding market. I do think FC3 is a clever move in a lot of ways and I know ED knows what they are doing. Just too bad the MiG-21 didnt get to be the baddest boy around for just a little while (since it problaby will be released after FC3). DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN There will always be bugs. Bluto Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Bravo, Lord Angel. Even though I'm a one-dimensional, "study sim," fixed-wing kind of guy that is tickled silly with the realism and complexity of the A-10C and don't see myself branching out to the other aircraft available in DCS World or jumping into a JTAC Humvee, I appreciate the diversity and additional realism that these other modules bring to the virtual battlefield. Real world operations are a team effort consisting of multiple air and ground components, each with their own job to do, and having other "live" vs AI pilots and JTACS performing those varied functions adds to my enjoyment. Additionally, the variety of available aircraft ensures the longevity of the platform, giving the guys who want to fly a multitude of simplified aircraft the ability to do so. ED has truly created an environment with something for everybody, and I, too, applaud them for doing something that has never before been attempted on such a grand scale in the flight sim community. An endeavor so ambitious will inevitably be fraught by challenges and hurdles, but I am confident that the good people at ED will continue to work out the bugs as we expose them and enhance the experience for all!
Krebs20 Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 What is great about FC3, you will be flying your A10 and Ka50 all day. You don't care what the fighter pilots cockpit looks like when you call for air cover in hostile airspace, you get it. The level of immersion this gives you is amazing. Here here for the good times ahead! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
fzfq3m Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I am very happy that I made the decision to get on this wagon some time ago when Microsoft killed its flight simulator... in fact I really appreciate that MS did it because otherwise I probably wouldn't know a thing about ED and their Digital Combat Simulator. I'm also a fan of study-sims but I really enjoy being able to reach my target area quickly while armed to the teeth is... priceless, that's why I love the SU-25T:D Anyway... DCS is looking very good and I have high expectations on it. VF31_Subsonic Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 LA...great post! Although I was a bit bummed to see the flight models not changed that much, I think having the battlespace more complete is a huge win! Simplified avionics, matter a bit less in the over all scheme as, one posted...when you need CAP support, you don't care how simple the fighter jocks plane is as long as he splashes your boggie!! Hell, the avionics are not THAT simplified so as to make them lame, and I would gladly mount up in a 27 or 15 and light the cans. I was hoping for a jet sim with the diversity of FC2 and flight modeling on par with the A-10c and Su-25t. I hope this is on the roadmap as it can only make things better. If it is not, then it looks like we may have some really robust 3rd party aircraft to plug into the world. All in all, I a very excited and looking forward to what seems like a strong resurgence in our addiction....errr hobby. VF-31 Tomcatters http://www.csg-1.com/ | Discord
