Slap_Chop Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 So I saw this video and see it seems much easier to hover a real helicopter near the ground than in TOH . (Have a look) Read the comments in the following video. The author claims he has to make many adjustments to master this bird and another complains his stick isn't adequate. So now we have real life helicopter pilots on this thread would maybe be interested in spending a little time to tweak the flight model variables in the game to give us non pilots a more realistic experience ? Just curious. It seems everything required is there but the experience isn't correct. Of course don't waste too much time on this. I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy and I've had both. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EagleEye Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Uhm 320 for the H269c and something like that for the cabri also. Both incl instructors. Where do you take your lessons? Wow that`s cheap. Is it in Euro, don`t know youre location. I take my lessons in Germany, Hamburg. So I saw this video and see it seems much easier to hover a real helicopter near the ground than in TOH . We pick it up with one of the heli skids, then transport it a few meters, lay it down and try to raising it with the skid. That`s fun.:) Wow, I wish I could fly in ToH like this guy. Maybe it is something with my controllers not set up correctly or with wrong deadzones or the like. But I have re-checked all that more then one time. Maybe I just need more practice. I´m afraid I do not have the knowledge/experience which is needed to tweak the variables.:( Deutsche DCS-Flughandbücher SYSSpecs: i7-4790K @4GHz|GA-Z97X-SLI|16GB RAM|ASUS GTX1070|Win10 64bit|TrackIR5|TM Warthog/Saitek Pro Pedals
YorZor Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I unfortunately don't have the time for it and more than likely not the patience. I kinda hate that sort of things to do so... I'll won't be much use I'm afraid on that point. @Eagleeye Yes it's in euro's. But are you going for cpl? Because at that hourly rate... it's insane.

KaspeR32 Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Hey guys and gals, There is a deal on http://getloadedgo.com/ for some sims. Not only BS2 and A-10 (which I have) but CoD, Wings of Prey, and Take On Helicopters. I was wondering, I love flying the Blackshark, and helicopters in general, so I've been really curious about ToH, is it worth getting ToH + ToH:Hinds for $25 or is it just going to piss me off because of the lacking Flight model. I only ask now because I know they've been updating it often with patches. Is it getting comparable to Black Shark? And I don't mean as easy to fly as the shark, I mean as authentic. Thanks! SackDestroyer Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 I got ToH with that deal. I've been having a decent amount of fun with it. The first thing you have to do in ToH is go into the control options and clear all the presets off of your joystick, throttle and rudder axis'. The game comes with the controls set up all whackadoo and it makes the choppers nearly impossible to fly. After you fix them the aircraft are much easier to control. Also be careful when setting up the controls if you have trackIR; if you move your head around while binding a control you can end up binding a head movement to your throttle! Consider turning off TrackIR (in the game options) before setting up the controls, and then turning it back on before clicking accept. Now, with that out of the way, I'd say I'm having a good time with ToH. No, it isn't on the study sim level of BS2, and the flight model is a bit on the arcadey side (only a bit, though). If that's a turn-off for you, you would probably be better off waiting for DCS Huey, or maybe going with DodoSim for FSX. But if that doesn't sound so bad, there is a lot to like about Take-On. The missions have a lot of variety, and there's good variety in the choppers. There is persistent damage in the main campaign, where you take different choppin' jobs to make money for repairs and new heli's. There's even a bit of a story in the campaign where you and your brother own a helicopter business, with voice acting that's actually pretty good for Bohemia Interactive (which is to say it's terrible). Still, a nice change from the usual 'select a mission from a list' setup that you normally see in flight sims. And the model of Seattle looks beautiful. That said, there is a problem that bothers me; it's very difficult to hover the choppers without using the 'auto-hover' button. Perhaps I don't have my axis sensitivety set properly, I'll have to continue messing around with it. But as it is, it's damned near impossible to enter the subtle control inputs needed for hovering without sending the chopper out of control. I'm not ace pilot, of course, so your mileage may vary. But what I've been doing is flying around with auto-hover off, and as soon as I have to stop to land or anything like that, I have to put auto-hover on so I can do the minute movements needed for the job. One more tip: If you get the game, and the graphics look 'blurry', go into options and makes sure that the '3d resolution' is set to the same dimensions as the screen resolution. edit: Oh, and I didn't get the Hinds expansion so I don't have an opinion on that. But I feel that if you want any of the other games on that deal it's more worth it to get one of them. 1

You are not the only one with that "problem". I do not care anymore when using auto hover. KaspeR32 Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 (edited) I got ToH with that deal. I've been having a decent amount of fun with it. So I ended up getting the game, installing all 17 GB of it, and trying it out. My first impression after starting the game up was that it looked really good, graphically. It is a good looking game, and I was excited to have a detailed world to fly helicopters around in. So I set up my controls, and started the campaign. This is where things started to go downhill. From the first moment I saw how the helicopter was handling with the AI flying, I was disappointed. It was jerky, and the helicopter felt like it had no weight. I tried to ignore this and tell myself, "Well, I'm sure it's just because the AI is controlling it, it'll feel/look normal when I take the controls." Sure enough, a minute into that first mission, I took control of the aircraft. UGH! It felt the same, Super sensitive, jerky, weightless. After flying straight for a short amount of time the AI took control again, then asked me to turn towards the bay. I went left instead of right and failed that part of the mission. After the mission was over, I went back into options and made sure the difficulty was set to advanced, to make sure I was getting RotorLib 4.0 in all it's glory. So I started another mission, this time with a light chopper. Started it up, and proceeded to take off. UGH again. I flew around for about 3 minutes, landed, shut the game down, and uninstalled it. All 17 gigs worth. So once again, I've tried something else but the quality of DCS has spoiled me so much, that I couldn't even enjoy it. I might have liked the missions, and the scenery/graphics, but I cannot look past the flight model, I just cant. I was able to fly Dodosim's 206 a lot longer, and I actually enjoyed that a bit more, I just wish there was a campaign for that. Anyway, I just thought I'd share my experience for others that were thinking about trying it, but really, really love BlackShark/A-10C/Su-25T fidelity. Don't.
