MemphisBelle Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) I havent expected to have those issues with the latest update. Once I installed DCS world and doubleclick the DCS World shortcut, I get this errormessage: Does anybody know where those issues are coming from? What have I done? downloaded all ressources as given by the new release (world, and the modules) uninstalled DCS World 1.2.0 (not deactivated anythings) installed DCS World 1.2.1 (by using execute as admin) uninstalled everythings again and reinstalled it again as same as I did above I still get this errormessage In addition to my reported Problem here, I´ve got to say that once I uninstalled everythings again I havent yet installed the new modules. I nontheless still get the "can´t start DCS" message Are there any further information needed to help me out in this case? MadTommy Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Glad you got it sorted. Just a curiosity.. i never run anything 'as admin'. But i am on an admin account of course. Is the reason i never have a problem that i disable UAC for Windows? i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz, Asus P8Z77-V, 8 GB DDR3, 1.5GB GTX 480 (EVGA, superclocked), SSD, 2 x 1680x1050, x-fi extreme music. Is the reason i never have a problem that i disable UAC for Windows? I dont know...you need to perform the special task to the aplication "run as admin" either manually or preset the aplication via rightclick / properties / compatibility. There one can set the aplication to always run as admin, so you wouldnt get any appearence of UAC at all if you´ve disabled it...but in my case I didn´t... may be one day I´ll learn that DCS always and ever needs this...at least for me BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection

nomdeplume Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I run it on my server just fine as a regular user (non-admin, UAC disabled). The game is installed in C:\Games (i.e. not under Program Files). I use a different account for installing/updating it.

Same here, no install under the default path (i.e. install outside Program Files) = Windows is less touchy = DCS runs even without any administrator rights (simple user, just need to have full control on the DCS installation folder). ++ Az'

Nate--IRL-- Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Installing Starforce DRM needs admin rights, installing into the special folder "Program Files", too. Ehh no, Starforce isn't "Installed" it is integrated as part of the DCS.exe and the module EXEs. Nowhere else.
