WildBillKelsoe
you can actually use the depressible pipper to boresight the maverick and shoot by pointing the pipper on various targets. for more info, check manual, page... 354/672 Set Default Boresight Location When the Maverick is first selected or it is commanded to boresight, its seeker will be commanded to its default boresight location. If you wish, you can change this location by: 1. Set MAV to SENSOR mode 2. Lock a ground or air target with the Maverick 3. Set the Boat Switch to the center (AUTO) position. When you do so, SEEKER BORESIGHT will display on the MAV page 4. Place the Depressible Pipper over the locked target and press TMS Forward Short. When you do so, the SEEKER BORESIGHT message will switch to reverse video. 5. Move the Boat Switch out of the center (AUTO) position. I usually do that when attacking in strafe a triplet of T-80's.. BlueRidgeDx
On the real jet, the seeker boresight procedure is something that must be done during each flight, for each launcher. It corrects for parallax between the missile LOS and the HUD LOS, which ensures both proper operation of the DLZ as well as agreement between the HUD wagon wheel symbol and the actual seeker. In DCS, we are given perfect missiles, so no seeker boresight is required. However, performing a seeker boresight can still pay dividends in DCS. If you plan on employing the Mav from medium altitude, you can re-boresight the missile at a greater depression angle, say 150 mils instead of the defult 70. This way, you won't have to dip the nose to get the wagon wheel near the target area, and you'll have a much easier time slewing. Technique only. SmokeyTheLung
BlueRidgeDx, seeker boresight refers to both adjusting the boresight position of the Maverick in the HUD and to adjusting the wagon wheel symbol on the HUD to properly line up with the seeker video? BlueRidgeDx
Two different, yet related procedures. First, boresight the missile. Second, press "ADJ" on the MAV MFCD and adjust the wagon wheel. BlueRidgeDx
 the last part of the vid (starting at 4:17) is just black and white footage ? So all the really white things are sun reflections ? Yes. The video was filmed over Tuscon, Arizona. It's the desert southwest and it's hot, so most roofs are light colored to help reflect the sun.
