jabodude Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Hello all :) So i just bought dcs p51 the other day, i have like 2 hours of stick time (full real settings) on this bird now but i have a real problem...my engine just locks up :(, im not sure why? I usually keep my rpm at 2500ish and my manifold pressure at like 45". Ive noticed i usually lock the engine up after diving so it may be that im over reving? but when diving i usually throttle down aswell as put my prop pitch to 0 :(. I will upload my track and hopefully 1 of you can tell me where im going wrong.help.trk
jabodude Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 p.s, it is from a cold start and so you have to fast forward the track:doh:
VH-Rock Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) Hi Jabodude, Welcome to the forum. My best advice would be to thoroughly read the pilots manual - it will be your saving grace :) I'm afraid I'm at work now so I can't watch your track, but I would suggest having a look at your oil temperature/pressure and coolant temperature when your engine quits - make sure everything is in the green. Also, is your fuel boost pump on when you're diving? I'm wondering if sustained negative G from the initial push over could be causing fuel starvation without the fuel boost pump on? (That depends on when your engine actually fails though). Try keeping your MP at 46" and your RPM at 2700 Edited October 5, 2012 by VH-Rock Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... jabodude Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 Hello mr Rock. id like to start by saying that i watched your video..and you and your wingy (or vise versa) are absolutely wicked! top notch m8:) My temps are in the green usually but i havent checked them on engine failure, i am at the mo checking the manual! As for the fuel boost pump...i donno where that is :P so i will check thta out lol  Thanks dude!
VH-Rock Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Thanks bud, we certainly appreciate the support :) The fuel boost pump switch is located just to the left of the starter (You should switch it on before starting although it's not necessary for straight and level flight). If you around over the weekend, stop by in our TS and come for a flight with us - we should be around so if you don't see us, just keep popping back. jabodude Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 Hey Rock, ty for inviting me to fly with you!, i will defo join your channel and listen in on how the pro's do it :P! Hey simast, the reason i put my selector to the right wing is purely because of the way my track ir is set up :P( i can see the right tankl easier lol), actually i still have to set it up for this sim :P. but in the sim i have noticed that if i put the selecter to middle tank..it cuts out sometimes!

That could be to do with your fuel load (depending on how the mission was set up). Always start on the left tank for the reasons that were explained earlier :) Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... Virtual Ultimate Fighters - Lead (P-47) - 2020...
159th_Viper Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 but in the sim i have noticed that if i put the selecter to middle tank..it cuts out sometimes! That's your main fuselage tank. By default it is empty (68% fuel load and below). If it has fuel (mission-designer added it), it will be used first (if selected) and as a consequence run dry first. PS: Always check your fuel gauges. If the main has gas in it, use it first - will make for a more comfortable ride :D Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career?
