Yellonet Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 I just put up a small mission in the editor where I was flying an A-10 and I was supposed to take out a few tanks a bunker and then engage a Ka-50 flying nearby... I'm approaching the tanks in a shallow dive, lock the first one with a AGM-65K and fire just before the Maverick hits the tank I'm suddenly at F11 view over an airfield - WTF? Ok, I end the mission and look on the report to see what happend... and to my amazement it is clear that the Hokum killed me with a Vikhir. Didn't even know that was possible. Cool... must try this out in the T frog now :) i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
S77th-GOYA Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Take out the Ka-50 with a Mav-D. ;) Use AWACS if available. Although, since 1.11, AWACS doesn't see helos too well.
Yellonet Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 Just as I expected, you can't lock a flying object with the laser... How the hell did the Hokum pull it off? i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
504 Wolverine Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 You can. Set the targeting box to the defined target wingspan. For F-15s and A-10s I usually set it at 23-30m [/url]
Alfa Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Just as I expected, you can't lock a flying object with the laser... How the hell did the Hokum pull it off? With the Su-25T it is possible to engage low flying objects with the Shkval system/Vikhr missile - the Ka-50 uses the same combination. Edit: What Wolverine said :) Cheers, - JJ. JJ

Then the IRST on the Mig-29 and Su-27 (mig-23MF) is a fantasy as well, and those domes are just for the looks :p In fact, you can even guide a gun (track a target) with a laser, the vanilla Mi-24 has this ability. I never said it was a fantasy  I just wasn't able to lock because I had not set the correct target size. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
Guest IguanaKing Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 This sort of thing can happen quite easily if you become target fixated. Now, obviously you're going to largely be that way until you fire, but after firing you need to pull up hard, jink, and dump some flares (all at the same time pretty much). Resist the temptation to eyeball the Maverick to its target and get the hell outta there. :D
