0utLAW Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Will a tablet work? Sci2 Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 why a touchscreen if you dont have to touch the screen ? i gues its gonna have the buttons next to it might as well stick with a lilliput or a U70 [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic90574_1.gif[/sIGPIC] Australasian Gaming Community Specs: Intel Quad 2.4GHz -- Geforce GTX 560 Duo -- SSD HDD -- 8Gb Mem -- 23" led -- 17"touch -- Logitech G940 Flight System --JoyLocs-- TIR 5 -- Cougar MFD'S -- Helios -
tintifaxl Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 This is a good question I've been pondering for some time now. If it's only use would be to provide additional input capabilities for DCS, I'd go with a touchscreen and Helios. If not, then a tablet would be more versatile, but I found the solutions to use a tablet as a virtual monitor (i.e. for TouchBuddy) not satisfactory. Too laggy and slow. A somehow working solution is an iPad with iControl DCS, but here we have the potential problem, that after a patch of DCS World, it won't work anymore. I would prefer a simple input app for the tablet that can send DirectInput events to DCS. But I haven't found any. Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.

GregP Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 (edited) If you want to get a little creative, you could cut out the Helios middleman and use a touchscreen monitor to render the entire cockpit directly. I run a T-shaped 4-monitor setup where the lower center monitor is a touchscreen, and as you can see in I made, it provides a really intuitive way of interacting with the cockpit. You could just as easily use only 2 monitors, one for the upper HUD view and the bottom touchscreen for the cockpit. Edited November 13, 2012 by GregP
agrasyuk Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 I tried to use cheap android tablet . Extended the monitor to it via idisplay and output Helios caution panel to it . Waste of money - response is to slow(without even exporting any views to it). And while I could live with the response idisplay can not run with aero. And that's pretty much a show stopper for me - Helios recommends aero Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
AV8R Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 My rig using 3 USB LCDs, one being a touch panel the other two not... DCS-A10c (DCS' LUA for MFDs, Helios for CDU) FalconBMS (Lightning's MFDE for MFDs, Helios for ICP) Ive tried a couple of iPad touch screen apps for the ICP and cockpit panels. While they worked OK, I personally don't like them.
hokie17 Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 GregP, I'd be interested in doing something like you did. I have a 40" 1080p TV as my main montior and a 23" 1080p touchscreen monitor beneath it. How did you set that up?
Sci2 Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 put helios up on the 23" touchscreen you got everything on it than including the CDU [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic90574_1.gif[/sIGPIC] Australasian Gaming Community Specs: Intel Quad 2.4GHz -- Geforce GTX 560 Duo -- SSD HDD -- 8Gb Mem -- 23" led -- 17"touch -- Logitech G940 Flight System --JoyLocs-- TIR 5 -- Cougar MFD'S -- Helios -
GregP Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 GregP, I'd be interested in doing something like you did. I have a 40" 1080p TV as my main montior and a 23" 1080p touchscreen monitor beneath it. How did you set that up? Well, when you have two monitors that are that different in size, I'm not sure how well my method would work, because for example if you use 1080p resolution on both monitors, the image on the touchscreen is going to be much smaller than the image on the upper screen. Alternatively, you could scale the touchscreen's resolution such that it 'inflates' its picture so that its roughly the same scale as the upper monitor. When I get home tonight I'll post my config files that you can use as a base as well as some more instructions.
