Are any of you using mods within DCS World? If so can you recommend any which are best? Seems to me that there used to be a ton of mods for FC2 and a lot for BS2, but not as many for DCS World, unless I'm missing something. Can I install a BS2 mod and will it work across DCS? kinda confused about this,

Thanks.

I think currently there aren't too many great mods because ED has been implementing some of those little hotfixes directly themselves.

But with regards to 3d models of planes etc.... since they changed the format of the model, unfortunately, there are some scaling issues which makes the previous models unusable without modification.

Also... mods to effect smoke etc were also changed a bit with the new versions that makes them pointless (due to removal of some functionality).

Anyways...now that FC3 has made an appearance, I would assume there should be a slow resurgence of modding.

Thanks... Well that is awesome that they implement the mods that receive good feedback!

I used to run a bunch of different mods, but haven't in a while since it became kind of a hassle with each version update.

One mod that I really used to like was a click-able radio menu. Does anyone know if one still exists for the latest version of DCS:W?

There aren't a lot of big mods for DCS, but lots of smaller mods that let you tweak the game to taste. I use a handful of visual mods, mostly textures or sounds.

There's just too much flux in the game code right now. DCS is not a stable platform for modding given how much stuff just constantly gets broken in every patch. A lot of modders would probably be reluctant to invest huge amounts of time into modding those luas if its all about to stop working in 30 to 40 days tops.

Most games traditionally don't spawn many huge modding projects until the latter half of the patching cycle once the biggest fixes have been stabilized. DCS however doesn't even have dedicated server support yet, or code that allows mission makers to rely on their work to function patch to patch without constant bug fixing.

Its rough being a modder/mission maker at this stage of a game's life.

I figure once 3rd party modules start coming out a lot of stuff will get stabilized and then modding can properly evolve.

Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

The clickable radio menu (PeterP's work from memory) is a must have mod for me, but as stated above, another great mod that keeps getting broken most times we get a new patch. For the life of me I can't understand why ED doesn't make the radio menu clickable in DCS aircraft, given the whole cockpit is clickable.

I also use the I Control DCS which exports the MFDs, CDU, radio panels, ILS & TACAN panels and quite a few other controls to one or more Ipads.
