So Im curious....there has to be a few in the DCS A-10 and FC2/3 MP community who are considered the top pilots and instructors....Who are they and what groups do they fly with?

Posted (edited)

i would also say the answer could really depend on your level of interest. an example would be there are sim gamers out there whome have learned to play the game as is.. and there are sim gamers out there whome have learned to play the game as a sim and try to employ a realistic feel to it.. of course there are people who are in the middle.

myself i would fit into the middle catagory. i like to sim but dont like to go overboard where it can become hard to others to ' easily join in'

having said all that, im more than happy to help somebody out. this weekend im hosting at 8pm USEST a mission designed to be good enviroment to do training.

It would be the upper end....the legends of realism. That said, I know the A-10 systems pretty much totally....theres just some skills I need to master that require an instructor wiho has great patience.

There are many good sticks out there, here is my opinion, also based on the best performances from current active pilots as many other experienced players are currently inactive :

BVR :

- F-15C: 104th_Ironman, 104th_Spade, 104th_Riptide, Nco_Koj,=UVAF=Prok

- Su-27S: <51>Frostie, <51>Breakshot, volk

- MiG-29S : 104th_Presing, Zart Arn

BFM:

- Su-27 : =ALPHA=KOT, USSR_Supermutt, =ALPHA=Zerol

Bombers :

Su-25, Ka-50 : =DW=Wizard_VVS, 104th_airbat, =DW=Omny, Rus-Aleksej, =4c=SandmaN, VAO*Dedal

A-10C: Aries, 74th_Tyger, =STP=Squadron

This list is not exhaustive, many talented and experienced pilots missing ! but this is what comes to my mind if you look at the latest MP activity.

The biggest thing you'll need to look for is an Instructor with excellent communication skills. Since its unlikely you and your instructor will be co-located, He'll be doing ALL of his instructing over teamspeak or similar. Kinda like the old movies where the Instructor on the ground tries to talk the stewardess through landing a 747 from the Tower...

Second thing I'd say is a must... you have to be using the same Stick and Throttle setup. Be it the Warthog or K-Mart Joystick, if he says "Set SPI" He shouldn't have to figure out what YOU use to do that.

Good Luck, Remember... If it feels Pain, It can learn.

I respectfully disagree. When I teach someone to operate the A-10C, I DON'T say, "press the big red button" or "press up on the hat under your thumb upwards". No, I give the actual HOTAS command: "press China hat forward long" or "TMS up short". IMO, it is vital that pilots learn the actual A-10C HOTAS buttons, and what they do. So all that matters s that you know what buttons on your joystick correspond to what A-10C HOTAS commands. That means, you need to either memorize that first, or have a quick reference sheet.

Hi all,

Interesting post and quite ironic. I have just made a post about another open workshop.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98144

Speed. Couldn't agree more. This is extremely important. I have wasted hours and hours 'trying' to map others' HOTAS setup's for them. Fact is, they have to, and they have to know what is programmed to where, even if they have no idea what that function actually does! That's where things like the open workshops come in handy.

Flankerator - Thanks.

Regards

functionallity is NOT a problem for me at all. I dont have a HOTAS...but i do have some of the commands done using keyboard combined with my hatswitch. I know the systems off by heart pretty much. But battle techniques...strategy...that sort of thing. Thats where i want a good instructor.

Pretty interesting thread....

I just registered here just to post on this topic, I'd like to find a group of nice guys to learn how to fly FC3 fighters in a realistic but easy going way. I have A10 but it doesnt appeal as much to my flying style......Maybe Im not doing it right??? ;)

I've scrolled the Squadrons thread but it seems quite outdated.

Welcome :)

Depends on which air-frame you fly - most Squads are aircraft-specific.

I agree the squadrons thread is out dated, its very hard to work out what groups fly and when.

that said I was recently last weekend hosting several training missions from A-10c / ka-50 and FC3

click on my signature to take you to our squadron page for more info about how we like to go about things.

it helps to answer the following as well.

Where you are from ?

how old are you ?

What time do you fly ?

What sims do you fly ?

what hotas do you use ?

do you have Track IR with 6DOF ?

do you have any special dietary requirements?

Im starting to learn F15 basics due to it's newer cockpit, but I would fly russian ones as well. It all depends on the group, I rather have fun than learning specifics like a Pro but in a stressful way.

Where you are from ? Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

how old are you ? 30

What time do you fly ? (I'm GMT -3) I fly around 00:00 GMT time

What sims do you fly ? DCS, Falcon 4

what hotas do you use ? Thrustmaster Flight X

do you have Track IR with 6DOF ? Yes

do you have any special dietary requirements? No carbohydrates at evening

Speed we don't really disagree... We just said it different. My point is if the instructor says "Set SPI" or "TMS Up" he shouldn't have to figure out or know what key the student presses to get the desired outcome.

Curiosity killed the cat they say.

instructors many especially in DCS: A-10, and this is not curious, because it has, with much more information, but Aces.... probably only find it in the air multiplayer and if you're lucky you'll learn something in the few minutes of life you have left during engagement:D.
