I'm flying the A-10C- Instant action- Georgia mission and I'm trying to take out way point 3 Patrol with some M-151s and guns. Every time I run in with the rockets they don't seem to hit anything. They seem to be hitting very low left. I was able to clear the area in one pass one time out of 50 tries. I'm flying it over and over again waiting to just get lucky. How can I be more accurate with these rockets? Is it possible?

the CCIP reticle with pipper inside it, calculates the impact point based on constant load factor, bank angle and pitch. Thus you need to be very trimmed and on one speed using airbrakes on final. A superb article can be found about CCIP bombing in SimHQ by Andy Bush. Also, take into account gravity drop. So, ultimately, aim high, miss low.

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

The waypoint has vehicles and infantry. It's very easy to kill the vehicles and overlook the infantry. It's pure luck if you volley all of the rockets and manage to kill all of the infantry and the vehicles.

Focus the rockets on the infantry. Scout the with TGP so you have a good idea where those little buggers are before you go in hot. You need to launch from pretty far out or you won't have time to switch to guns.

IFFCC ballistic calculations are based on much more than just the factors you list, you do not need to make any adjustments for "gravity drop" at all.

You do not need to be trimmed at all, what you need is a stable attitude during the tracking phase of the delivery. The most common mistake people make is trying to force the pipper onto the target my moving the aircraft rather than allowing the pipper to track onto the target naturally.

While the articles on SimHQ are reasonably good and useful for people wanting to gain a basic understanding of Air-Ground weapon employment, especially for those starting from scratch, they are very basic (as you'd expect being written over a decade ago for LOMAC and similar) and leave a lot of stuff out.

As far a speed brakes go, no, just no.

One of my first threads (if not my first) in this forum was expressing my disappointment of how ineffective rockets appear to be. I have yet to encounter a scenario where rockets were the clear choice. I get much more out of a dive with a nice gun strafe or concentrated PAC burst. And if I'm gonna go CCRP and/or loft, good ol' Mk-82s get the job done better than any rocket.

Since I'm pretty new at this, I'm going to keep assuming I'm not using them properly or under the right context. But no one has yet to clarify when rockets are the answer.

WELL I FINALLY DID IT! I finish my first instant action mission(sort of). I didn't RTB and land. But WHATEVER! I was able to take out all enemies(sort of). I had my wingman help out cleaning up the scraps. I'm going to give it some more tries until I can take out every enemy and land.

There is a sense of accomplishment to this Sim, isn't it?

You read the maual and at first think whoe, this is way to technical to be just a "Game". Then you think wow just like the real thing. Fire that first Sam at a Tank and I was hooked.

Drop JDAMs accuratley is awsome too. gotta love the Kid in all of us.

My wife just shakes her head at my inthusiasm for this Great Sim, My son who is 6yrs. can accurately pull off a Maverick run. My wife shakes her head and says "Like Father Like Son".

^Nice! Well a couple of more runs and I'm really getting the hang of the rockets for taking out the way point 2 Patrol. It's does come down to speed and lining up the targets so that they are in a row.

Oh and just downloaded and installed Tacview....... OMG! What a better sense of the battle. Getting to actually see the effective range of AA(red bubbles). WOW SO MUCH FUN! Ok now to just raise some funds for a TM HOTAS! ;)

Yes that TM HOTAS is pretty nice. The price for that thing is way overboard to me for a game. And I have the money just can't seem to put that much on the counter for a joystick. I use the Saitek X52 with Tracker IR. the view hat is used for TMS. so I am fine with that.

I think the TH HOTAS Warthog is well worth the price of admission. Ever since I purchased mine, I've never looked back. I use it for all my games, not just DCS. If it ever broke down on me and I couldn't get it repaired I would happily shell out the money for it again. The quality and handling is superb. I really wish TM will continue making new sticks and accessories at that level of quality.
