markl Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 This did run, but with some PC shuffling I've made some hardware changes that I think is responsible, but I have no clue how to resolve it. It's on the same pc, but the graphics card got replaced with a nvidia GTX 260 from a 580 (580 needed elsewhere). It was on a TH2Go which is now a single montior with 1680x1050 resolution. I also installed TrackIR5. So 3 major changes, but how and why this should cause this app to not load at all is beyond me. Poor handling at launch of hardware changes if thats the case. Anyway, this is NOT a Steam version. I also tried placing a '--console' at the end of the target based on a thread I saw, but the window still disappears, so I can't see any messages if any as to what's wrong with it. Help appreciated, thanks.
markl Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 (edited) Still need help Uninstalled and reinstalled, same issue. System is I7 920, 6gb Ram, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Nvidia GTX 260. Gateway 22" Widescreen 1680x1050 This is proving to be the worst products (BS2 & A10) that I have ever spent my money on. Seems to be a rampant problem with virtually no support. Can't say that I'll ever recommend these to anyone. Can't even get the damm thing to start up. Can someone at least tell me how to capture the text when attempting to start BS2 with "--options"? The screen disappears, unable to read what may be clues to what the hell is wrong with it. Edited December 1, 2012 by markl

markl Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 No, saw something about that after I had uninstalled and reinstalled. Thing is, it worked prior to changing the video card, which is about the only thing I can think of that was significant enough. While the card is on the lower end of performance, I would expect it to be sufficient enough to at least let the program start up. I just built a new system and not enough cash left to get another high end video card and since it was replacing this pc, I did a swap with a GTX 580. I figured I would leave BS2 and A10 on this box. Is there a way to stop or capture the text in the initial window with the '-console' when it attempts to start? Could be a clue as to its problem?
JG14_Smil Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 (edited) Hello, Hope you get it running. That is a huge step down in the gfx dept. BS2 needs the good card to run best. Did you find and delete anything related to DCS when you did your re-install? I remember back in the day there was some temp file or something that would keep locking up DCS if it was not deleted. Not sure if it is like that any more. I know I've made the same types of hardware changes with no problems at all. As a guess, I would think your gfx installation is porked. No error log? markl Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Ok, so said screw it and went and bought a GTX 650 TI for $200 Still no joy, what the hell happened to these apps? Thought these would be some great sims for the price, now I wish I'd never heard of them.
PoleCat Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 (edited) This is most likely a configuration/system level problem and not the sim. Did you try removing the "DCS" folder from your Saved Games folder? Located at C:\Users\Your Username\Saved Games (Under Windows 7). If not try temporarily renaming or moving this folder and run the game again. Out Edited December 2, 2012 by PoleCat http://www.104thphoenix.com/
EtherealN Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 (edited) I would recommend that you try an up-to-date version as well. v1.1.1.1 is old, pre-World. Given that MSVC90.dll is involved, I would recommend installing or repairing Visual C++: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=997667&postcount=8 Hopefully that will resolve the issue. markl Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Uninstalled both BS2 and A-10 and reinstalled to c:\EagleDynamics Now both start up, but back to "DCS has stopped working" when clicking "Instant Action" and selecting anything. Old version? Guess I didn't do my homework, but just got this a couple of weeks ago I'll check, but the damm upgrade better be free. Far as I'm concerned right now, ED owes me $200

71st_Mastiff Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Also did you reinstall nvidia drivers? "any failure you meet, is never a defeat; merely a set up for a greater come back", W Forbes. markl Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Latest nvidia drivers as I installed a new card $200 down the drain. Latest from their site, not the disk that came with it. Did the repair of the Visual C++ as well. No change. So the DCS World is a free download, is the update to 1.22 for BS2 and A10 free? Can't tell from their website, I can guarantee I won't spend another dime on this. I bought this stuff a couple of weeks ago from some online offer, installed, but didn't have a chance to run it in depth, made the change to the hardware and nothing has worked since. No app should be this hard to get running. Not impressed. I am appreciating the help.
EtherealN Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 To get the latest version of the simulator, go to digitalcombatsimulator.com and download DCS World. Install this, then find the Black Shark 2 module. I assume you don't have the upgrade version, in which case you want to make sure that you don't select the "upgrade" module. DCS World: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?ProductId=21&end_pos=137&scr=product&lang=en Black Shark 2 module: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=12&end_pos=136&lang=en If the problem persists, a DxDiag output file would be helpful. EDIT: DCS World is free, totally free, for everyone. Your BS2 license is valid for BS2, this does not change with World integration. markl Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Thanks for clearing that up, I'll give it a shot
markl Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Do I uninstall BS2 and A10 again before installing DCS World and the BS2 and A10 modules?
EtherealN Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 If you want to. It's not strictly necessary; DCS World will have it's own Saved Games folder anyhow. If you want to you can keep them, though I see little reason to do so. markl Posted December 3, 2012 Author Posted December 3, 2012 Ok, can't believe it all finally works! I was able to load and fly (and destroy!) both the Black Sharkk and A10. Sorry, but those standalone versions are crap. I just never expect to have to go through this much grief to get something running. A big thank you to those that helped me get this straightened out! FYI: The GTX 650 TI 2gb Ram seems to do an outstanding job based on what I saw. Mark
