Python Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Hi guys, I'm almost ashamed to ask for advice about this most basic of things but I'm almost pulling my hair out now... what on earth am I doing wrong?! I am yet to complete the taxi mission as it ends with me getting grumpy and quitting. The problems I am having are that either the turn radius is equal to that of Jupiter, to the point where it is impossible to turn onto taxi ways or run ways etc in the space available. And yet if I push the stick forward for a tighter turn it goes loopy and starts turning in the opposite direction or locking up completely which usually leads to me ending up on fire or upside down on the grass.... or at the very least, pointing in the opposite direction to the jeep. Is this a bug on my end or am I just a donut and missing something simple? To be honest I gave up on it ages ago and just start from the runway but I've just gone back to try again and the results were the same... burning in a ditch. All help appreciated, Many thanks. MemphisBelle Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 you need to assign the keys for the left and the right main wheel breaks to your HOTAS and instead of using the tail wheel to steer, simply use the main wheels breaks to steer and taxi...it´s a matter of practice as well...but a lot easier nonetheless 1 BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection
wolle Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Hi Python, Are you using the latest World version? I think taxiing has become easier in the later version of DCS world/P51. I think the key to nice and controlled turning with the stick forward is the right taxiing speed. You can first try turning at a very low speed, and as you use differential braking the aircraft will come to a stop without turning much, and the tail wheel may be left in an awkward position. If you are too fast, differential braking will lead to ground looping. Somewhere in the middle is the right speed. That's at least what works for me. If that doesn't work, you can always use differential braking with the stick pulled back, that should be very easy to controll. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Intel Core I7 4820K @4.3 GHz, Asus P9X79 motherboard, 16 GB RAM @ 933 MHz, NVidia GTX 1070 with 8 GB VRAM, Windows 10 Pro
Python Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 Thanks guys, I believe i have the latest version as the updater doesn't find anything newer. I will assign main wheel brakes and see if I have any more luck.... I can't do much worse. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Dejjvid Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 You can use differential braking on the P-51 i7 8700K | GTX 1080 Ti | 32GB RAM | 500GB M.2 SSD | TIR5 w/ Trackclip Pro | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Pro Flight Rudder [sigpic]http://www.132virtualwing.org[/sigpic]
SimFreak Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 You can use differential braking on the P-51 Combination of dif- braking and locked tail wheel is the key. (Move stick aft to lock tail wheel. )
