Loz Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Is there any reason that you use 3 screen display for your main view?? The distortion that you get across the horizon when you roll the aircraft would be a real show stopper for me. It just don't look right, you get a better realistic representation of the outside with one screen ie: eyefinity. It shows up really bad on your screen dump image above and in your video. i9 9900x at 5.1 Ghz // ASUS ROG Maximus XI Formula EK Bloc // 64Gb Corsair Vengence 3600Mhz DDR4 Ram // Gigabyte Aorus 3090 Watercooled block//Samsung SM951 M2 x4 SSD // Windows 10 64 Bit //48inch LG48 @ 3840x2160 120Hz//Asus ROG Swift PG35VQ 3440 x 14440 144Hz // TM Warthog HOTAS (Ser. Kuky Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Doesn't matter if you use 1 viewport or 3, as long as screen area is stretched across 3 monitors it will have this effect (well not on screenshot). If you sit in the middle of the curved screen area you don't get the flat perspective you see on screenshot, things look much more normal. Loz Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Nice work. But I'm sorry to say with regard to my earlier post, that you must have had too much to drink over Xmas if you think that horizon looks correct on you screens. :) LOL But seriously when you roll the aircraft the horizon becomes Z shaped!! i9 9900x at 5.1 Ghz // ASUS ROG Maximus XI Formula EK Bloc // 64Gb Corsair Vengence 3600Mhz DDR4 Ram // Gigabyte Aorus 3090 Watercooled block//Samsung SM951 M2 x4 SSD // Windows 10 64 Bit //48inch LG48 @ 3840x2160 120Hz//Asus ROG Swift PG35VQ 3440 x 14440 144Hz // TM Warthog HOTAS (Ser. metalnwood Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Frank, looks like you have a nice spot to put a pit with enough space for the projectors. I take it that the 3 projectors on the wall is a test and that you will be going to the wrap around screen for final? I agree with Loz that 3 views on a flat surface doesnt work. I use track ir so even 3 views set up correctly goes out of whack when looking up with TIR.

DCS is just new playground to me ;) See pic. http://www.dcscockpit.com
Dropship Pilot Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) In regard to the smooth running setup: I have an ASUS 7970 dc2t and have 2 of my 3 main view monitors (1920x1080) connected to the two DVI ports. The third main view monitor (1920x1080) and the CDU monitor (640x480) are connceted via a HP DisplayPort to VGA Adapter (AS615AT) each. The fifth monitor (1920x1080) shows the MFCDs and the instrument panel (Helios). While this setup is running smoothly when the computer is up and running, I expericence quite a few odd things during startup (like getting the wrong resolution settings and/or monitor configuration). From what I can tell the problems are caused by the non-PNP CDU monitor in combination with the display port adapters. So... How do you guys connect your monitors/projectors to your display port outputs? Edited December 29, 2012 by Dropship Pilot
frank Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 I do not Yet have the 7970 - Is it an active DP to VGA adaptor you have ?? http://www.dcscockpit.com
Dropship Pilot Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) As far as I can tell the HP adapter is a passive version. It's the only "DP to something else" adapter that worked properly with my previous XFX 5870 eyefinity6 (and I even tried active adapters like the Sapphire Mini-DisplayPort to DVI-D adapter). I know there's this list of recommended adapters on the ATI homepage, but it'd be nice to know what is actually used in typical DCS multi monitor/projector setups. frank Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 You'r right, but i will replace the electronic in the MFDs and that electronic is using flat cable ! http://www.dcscockpit.com
Manuel Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 You'r right, but i will replace the electronic in the MFDs and that electronic is using flat cable ! Yes that is a smart way to do it. Where did you get all those experience to built a simulator on your own? I mean that is far beyond the ol man in the house sort of electronics but rather difficult, more professional if you know what I mean... metalnwood Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I have 3 sapphire active dp adapters. setting up can sometimes be a pain but once it's done my setting stick. The cdu was a little problematic, from memory it didn't want to let me choose 640x480 as a resolution. I used the dvi-> VGA dongle plugged in to a VGA ->composite adaptor. But as I say, once it was all done, maybe taking 10 minutes of trial and error it works and stuck. I just don't unplug anything to screw it all up.
frank Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 Spent 20 year of building sims http://www.youfly.nu - it is my F16 sims - A10C is the NEXT ;) http://www.dcscockpit.com

The cdu was a little problematic, from memory it didn't want to let me choose 640x480 as a resolution. I used the dvi-> VGA dongle plugged in to a VGA ->composite adaptor. Can you give me the exact type of the DP adapter? Is it Dp2DVI? Had the same problem with the CDU resolution. I could set 640x480 but it always changed to 1024x768 after a reboot. So I simply kept it at 1024x768. If you know a way to force 640x480, I'll gladly listen.
metalnwood Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I can't say as I know how to keep it at 640x480. It seems there is a bit of voodoo and luck involved before I had an option for it. My 7970 has the full size DP adaptors so I needed to get this one http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=13591
Dropship Pilot Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I'll have to try those! Thanks, Stefan
Flim Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Frank, finally moving away from the 16? Your box projection motivated me to do the same ...
frank Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 You are welcome ;) ohh, please keep in mind that you only can use HITACHI ULTRA SHORT SHROW PRJ. for this setup ! and to keep aspect you need 1200x768 on front... i use epson for that... top mounted and Yes - the DCS is the future... becoming interresting with combined forces... more sim to be developed ;) http://www.dcscockpit.com
