Pizzicato Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Hey guys, I've been playing the Operation Medvedev II campaign and I've just reached the mission named "Poke in the Eye". I think it's about the fifth mission in the campaign. Winds in this mission are pretty strong (12m/s) and I've been finding two separate but presumably related issues: 1. The automated Hover Mode seems to have extreme difficulty holding a stable hover. This is especially true if I'm not aligned into the wind (i.e. there's a strong crosswind). The Hover Mode's behaviour in this instance is very erratic, sometimes resulting in a rapidly increasing rotation of the helicopter that quickly becomes a death spiral. 2. Vikhrs seem to miss their targets 50%+ of the time. They'll often leave the tube and then fairly quickly decide to nose dive into the ground. My question here is "Are these intended behaviours or bugs that need to be addressed?". I'd provide a track, but they seem to be broken at the moment (i.e. what you see is not what actually happened). I've been flying the Shark for several years, though, and tend to consider myself a good pilot. I usually have no problem controlling the helicopter, bringing it to a hover and deploying weapons, so these two issues tend to feel like bugs, but I could be wrong... Insights (especially from the dev team and testing team) would be hugely appreciated. Dejjvid Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Working as intended, if you sideslip enough, the missile won't catch the laser beam. If it does not detect a beam, it will crash. Don't use autohover, trim in to the wind manually, should keep you fairly stable. i7 8700K | GTX 1080 Ti | 32GB RAM | 500GB M.2 SSD | TIR5 w/ Trackclip Pro | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Pro Flight Rudder [sigpic]http://www.132virtualwing.org[/sigpic]
Pizzicato Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 Thanks Dejjvid. I take it that's been discussed and confirmed by the devs? I looked for a relevant thread in this forum and couldn't find anything. I'd definitely be interested to read more. In terms of your observations, does that mean that Vikhrs can only really be deployed from directly upwind or downwind? The acceptable launch parameters for the Vikhrs are pretty narrow (I.e. a couple of degrees either side of boresight). That being the case, I don't see how you could be in a crosswind situation and then trim into the wind and still get a valid launch authorization. Do you have to disable the Vikhrs' launch constraints before firing off-boresight? Definitely an interesting topic, anyway. I'm still constantly learning more about this aircraft and it's an absolute joy. i7-7700K @ 4.9Ghz | 16Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | MSI Z270 Gaming M7 | MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti Gaming X | Win 10 Home | Thrustmaster Warthog | MFG Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift S
Shein Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Some good info: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=90463& I remember having that problem too. My advice is still use the autohover, but trim in some rudder and cyclic into the wind to keep it steady. Remember, the werewolf's autopilot only has 20% control authority and that include the autohover! strong winds can overpower it. Good luck, hope this helps!
Pizzicato Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 Excellent thread and really helpful.
