S77th-GOYA Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 I've noticed different kinds of SAMs firing missles in various wierd directions and the missles detonate just after launch. KUBs seems especially prone to do this, but I've also noticed Hawks and S-300s doing it. They will quickly exhaust their supply of missles and become useless.
Yellonet Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 If you get close enough they will launch even without a targeting radar, and obviously the missiles self-destruct as they have no lock. But you're talking about a normal lock situation...or? i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
S77th-konkussion Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Goya & I ran on a Hawk last evening. It happened to be situated in kind of a bowl, so It was having a rough time painting us- as we came over the terrain it literally freaked.. and shot off almost everything it had in 1 salvo. Several missiles just blew up after a few hundred yards. One of the LN's even let one go at the LN unit sitting next to it :p. After I took out the TR unit, I think it quit, didn't it? (I had to fly up and around to see how I did) [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
S77th-GOYA Posted November 26, 2005 Author Posted November 26, 2005 http://members.iglou.com/goya551/kub.zip A short track file of the first three missles fired by a Kub detonating as if the radar lost lock. I can't see a good reason why the radar lost lock. No beaming, no obstacles. The Tornado is low, but it seems that the Kub is very weak at maintaining lock on a low target. What this track doesn't show is the SAM firing in an apparently random direction. That happens frequently too.

S77th-konkussion Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Yep, exactly. I was a bit surprised how close we got before it had acheived a real bead on us. Didn't seem we had to fly that far to begin the festivities. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Ironhand Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 That would be the "Labels Boost" in action. Since you're playing with labels "on", the sim figures you need all the help you can get: Labels Boost . ;) The ZIP file contains two tracks of the same mission, one labels "on", the other labels "off". S77th-GOYA Posted November 27, 2005 Author Posted November 27, 2005 It does the same thing with labels off. I turned them on to make the track easier to see.
bSr.LCsta Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 this has been happening since LOMAC v1.0 with all SAM units including shoulder launched. It seems to happen mainly when you fly low. I always thought of them as detonating because the lead persuit path pushes them towards the ground. I have also seen the "freak out" thing you guys are describing, against hawks this will happen often if you use terrain masking and surprise the target. It almost seems like the launches go into a cue state if you can't be seen by radar, but are in range. Then once it does finally get a lock it fires them all. Just guessing? is this ok?
Ironhand Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 It does the same thing with labels off. I turned them on to make the track easier to see. That wasn't a serious suggestion...though it was interesting that I got two completely different outcomes in that set.
