I just downloaded and installed FacetrackNOIR. I'm trying to use it, but can't find anything in the "options" of A-10C where I can assign it to POV. I only see my flight controls and associated buttons and axes. I see NOTHING in reference to Facetrack or my web camera. I presently use the china hat on the throttle for a POV, but it's clumsy at best. I really want to try this FacetrackNOIR.

I know that I will probably spend a lot of time tweaking it and getting everything just right on it, but I have to at least make it work with the game first.

I've googled it, but everything that I can find is about how to tweak it and change the .ini files etc. I can find nothing about simply making it work with the game.

Where do I begin?

Update:

I found this site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/facetracknoir/files/Special%20support/ED/32bit_games/

It seems fairly straight forward, but I have searched for 20 minutes and I can't locate a bin folder. I found 3 .bin FILES, but they are not in a folder named anything similar to what they suggested in those instructions.

I'm running Win 8, which is a pain in the rear so far. It may be in a different location, but a search of the computer finds NO bin folders.

With my standalone v1.1.1.1, I have a bin-folder here:

C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\bin

I haven't installed DCS World version, so cannot say anything about it.

there should be instructions with facetrackNOIR. if i recall you need to drop a file into the eagle dynamics folder, then after opening facetrack, you need to load the "DCS_A-10C.ini" under profile, tracker source should be "Face API", and game protocol should be "Freetrack"

you dont set any options in DCS to set this up, should happen automatically.

let me do some "recalling" really quick and i'll get back with you. i'm not familiar with windows 8 unfortunately

OK....I found the folder. I've extracted all of the files into it and run the program, then the A-10 sim and it doesn't do anything. I've seen some instructions online that say that I need the correct .dll or .ini file for this game, but it's not in the list of profiles in the facetracknoir program.

I got v.160 from the page that Maachine listed, so it should be the latest and greatest.

Am I missing something?

ok here, lets start from the beginning

install version 1.60 which i'm assuming you did

download the 64 bit .dll file from this link (called eagle dynamics API interface DLL)

http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/information_links/download.htm

now extract the headtracker (from the eagle dynamics API interface DLL file) folder to this location C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin

now open face tracker

under profile click load

find the DCS_A10C.ini that was extracted to here: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\headtracker

make sure the tracker source is "Face API" and game protocol should be "Freetrack"

open DCS and it should be working properly

AHHHHH! That 64 bit .dll file may be what I'm missing. The DCS A-10C profile isn't there.

This is what I have so far.

It's time to go get the kids from school, but I'll try to find that additional file that you gave me the link to when I get back.

HOEFULLY, I can take it from there. I'll write back if I get lost again.

Thanks so much!

I owe you a beer!

i'll take a beer. lighting is a big factor when using facetrack. i had to go buy a desk lamp and set it on the top shelf of my desk so it will shine light down onto my face.

play with the curves, and give it some "deadzone". it helps. you can google facetracknoir curves and you should find some pictures of people's curves they setup.

Well, I couldn't stand it. I had to try before going to go get the kids.

I followed your instructions and found the files exactly where you said they'd be. I configured it exactly like you said and the profile was there. I ran facetracker and could see it working. Then I opened A-10C and started it, but nothing happened. I could move my head all around and it did nothing.

Now, I have my controls unplugged and have carried the computer upstairs to do some other things. Maybe I need to carry it back down to the game room and plug it back in to more fully try it, but that's where I stand right now.

OK....gotta go get the kids.

Thanks!

OK...back from the school. I plugged everything in and it still does not work.

I've loaded the A-10C profile and configured everything as you mentioned.

I can see the facetracker program running. It's tracking my face. It's just not interacting with the game.

I wonder if I need to un-assign the POV buttons in the game, that I had before.....

I also wonder if I have a version of A-10C that isn't compatible. I got this version over a year ago. It wouldn't run on my old computer, but I have a new one now. I installed A-10C right after Christmas on this machine. It's version 1.1.1.1 or something like that. I wonder if I have a 32 bit version. I'm not sure how to tell. My computer IS 64 bit.

Any other ideas?

maybe update to the newer version of DCS? not sure......go through the options on facetrack and check those out.

it should start working automatically. you shouldnt have to set any options in DCS to get it to work.

Is there a way to tell whether or not I have a 32 or 64 bit version of the game? I can tell what release version it is, you know version 1.1.1.1 etc, but I can't find if it's 32 or 64 bit. I purchased it over a year ago and really don't remember. I'm guessing that since I was using a bare bones laptop back then, I may have the 32 bit version.

Run the sim, press Ctrl-Alt-Del and bring up task manager processes tab. If there is a *32 after dcs.exe then you're running the 32bit exe, if there isn't then you are running the 64bit exe.

found that on a different forum

If you have a 32 bit windows then the 32bit version of the game is installed

IF you have a 64 bit windows the then 64bit version of the game is installed..

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

OK...I tried the ctrl-alt-del thing. Man....this Win 8 is strange. It looked very weird, but there was no *32 mentioned there. I'm assuming that I am running the 64 bit version as Joey45 said.

To eliminate the ossibility though, I downloaded the 32 bit version of the .ini file and tried that. It still didn't do anything with the game.

The facetracker program works well. I can still see it tracking my face and I am starting it before starting the game, but once the game is running, it's not interacting with the facetracker at all.

I gota take a break from this for a while. I've been at it all day. LOL!

Thanks for the assistance.

The facetracker program itself, or the 32 bit .ini file?

In either case, no. I installed the 32 bit files and it said it was overwriting the existing files.

try uninstalling everything. i have been reading stuff how people were installing 1.60 over 1.5 and face track would stop working. you also need to do this when you uninstall everything:

That's strange. Did you install an older version, before v160?

You must go to Control Panel/programs and features and remove the 'Intel IPP Runtime' software. Then you must re-install v160 again (that should install the IPP again, with a different parameter).

try uninstalling then reinstall v1.60

be sure to restart the comp before re-installing

V 1.6 is the only version that I have ever installed.

I'm certainly willing to uninstall and reinstall. I just want to make sure that I do it right.

I have already uninstalled the facetracknoir program itself. Is this the othe program you mean to uninstall?

Since this says it's an installer, I just want to make sure.

I uninstalled and reinstalled everything but now, the web cam won't even come on.

I think I'm coming down with the flu too. I'm going to bed. I'll try to get it working later. May look into system restore.

Thanks for all of the help.
