Woodstock Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Hi Squadronmembers and -leaders! I am currently translating non-classified parts our vJaBoG32-Wing-Manual (ca. 160 pages) into english and maybe parts of it will be available to the community some day. Those parts mainly deal with brevity-codes and departure-/arrival-R/T-procedures for controlled and uncontrolled airbases. For the brevity part there won´t be much new to share since I´m shure you all know the relevant articles at SimHQ and this list: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/policy/army/fm/90-38/fm_90-38_brevity.pdf But I am curious to find out how other large squadrons handle the radio calls for coordination of multiple flights/aircraft during departure and arrival phases of their training and squadwar missions. On good days we experienced up to 20 pilots who, solo or in formations, were using the taxiways, runways and traffic patterns of our homeplate at the same time. We found that everything went much more organized once everyone used standardized R/T calls, no matter if there was a tower controller on duty or not. How do others handle non-tactical radio procedures? Is there already a common standard in the community that I am not aware of? Who knows LO- or milflightsim-specific links to articles related to the subject? Who is willing to share their squadron procedures with the community? I´m asking to get a feeling for what the subject matters to you and how you handle it. It´s always great to fly mixed-squadron missions like in the late CAW and to know what the other guys are talking about on the radio. Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 this is what normally happens. pilot 1, am takin off first. pilot 2. dude, am on the runway and am gettin ready to roll, and your just turning onto the runway now !!! pilot 3, am turning onto the runway now, and i can see you 2 at the other end of the runway, you 2 are in the wrong place / wrong end :) pilot 4, ah, am takin off on the taxi way, cuz you 3 have messed up the runway. :D thats how it normally goes as far as i have experienced lockon with multiple aircraft on the deck. It never fails.

S77th-konkussion Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Heh. also a good reason to use the available TS whenever flying. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Gazehound Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Heh. also a good reason to use the available TS whenever flying. Yes. It amazes me when flying on hyperlobby dedicated servers how few people bother to use the TS provided. 77th, JaBoG and 169th servers, & ours 504th :) (44th when its avaliable) all have publice TS servers, yet generally you only find the 'natives' on them. Why is this? If you use TS you are at a massive advantage already. VVS504 Red Hammers

Headsets are a very cheap investment compared to the whole new online flying experience in-game voice-comms offer. None of our squad´s members are native english speakers, yet we don´t mind babbling right away. The common language is rather brevities and R/T than plain English, and those are quite easy to learn. Back on topic, please! Anyone want to contribute to the questions I posted? "For aviators like us, the sky is not the limit - it's our home!"
Floyd Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 If someone is looking for a formalized way to the flights, i'll recommend the manuals for the F-16: Volume 3 - Pilot Operational Procedures Volume 5 - F-16 Combat Aircraft Fundamentals Although these volumes were written for the F-16 there is a lot of useful information about procedures, formations, tactics etc., approx 380 pages. I'm flying for so long with my squadmates that the take off/return procedures need almost no comms, we fly several tactical manneuvers which are announced by the flight lead and missile shots are announced by standard codes. Most of the comms is about announcing and sorting bandits, situational awareness and tactics (adapting to changing situations during fight and flight). The larger your squadron the more difficult it is to establish fixed procedures - we are not the Air Force: too many cowboys - too few sheriffs.

Read briefings, buy one,& at least one could listen in and gain some SA. Better than none. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
