Pilotasso Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 There's some fame in it for Mizzy ;) I have her name in the LOMAN files authors label. ;) Now if we could only put those CDDS in 8 bit. Any word about what ED can help us on that? .
BeetleJuice Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I have a freeware graphics program with a DDS plugin. When I try to save a indexed 8bit bmp to DDS the program tells me that DDS only knows grayscale and RGB colors... I think thats the reason why loman converts the bmp files back to RGB, its just a limitation on the file format, but I'm no expert on this though.

That is interesting...but if this is true then its REALY, REALY Stupid for this format to leave 256 color format out. It makes microsoft apear that it wants PC's to have bad perfomance .Their MS SIM's sure are much heavier on the system that their graphics hints. I always wondered why MS CFS3 behaved so bad. IS there a way to replace the CDDS BMP's by another format, say TGA or any other that the game supports? Im thinking if we can put the textures in the temptexture folder with another file format to conjugate 8 bit collor with comparable disk space usage to the CDDS files. .
Yellonet Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Could someone check in which directory the 'maptexturesbmp.cdds' file should be, I removed it and now I can't remember where it goes :( i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5

Mizzy Posted December 12, 2005 Author Posted December 12, 2005 Shameless bumpsky :icon_madu Shame :) I think the only way to settle this is to ask this question:- Dear Eagle Dynamics Does Flaming Cliffs support 256 colour and if so how do we import graphics that have been Brighted?. This will make the graphics load only a third of what it is now if we can. Wonderful flight simulation. Yours sincerely Mizzy.
BeetleJuice Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 The question is if the DDS fileformat supports 256 colors. But hey, grayscale would add a nice "retro" feeling to the game if it had prop-flyables ;)

Pilotasso Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I have tried with 256 bit BMP format but I lose perfomance instead of gaining. Heavy loading times too. I still wanna try with all LOD textures extracted to see what happens. I predict heavier loading times but hpefully will it gain FPS? .
BeetleJuice Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I would rahter like to see less stuttering when new objects spawn. 25-30 FPS during flight is enough for my eye. But as soon as I look to the left or right on the runway it gets a slideshow until all textures are loaded... ugh.
D-Scythe Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 If there were in DDS, there would be no FPS loss ;) Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this is possible.
Mizzy Posted December 12, 2005 Author Posted December 12, 2005 If there were in DDS, there would be no FPS loss ;) Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this is possible. In other words the game doesn't support 256 colour transfers using bright ;) Shame as it has done wonders for IL2 series!!! Mizzy
D-Scythe Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Yup. LOMAC at the moment cannot handle Bright textures in its CDDS files. I emailed Chizh about the problem and he kindly responded that they didn't think it was possible currently. In the future, who knows? But currently, this is a dead-end :(
