Outlaw24 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I'm in the process of building a mission where JTAC is calling in CAS on a small (scout) group of infantry. After I load the coordinates locate and set there location as my SPI. I order my AI wingman to attack, infantry at my SPI with unguided bombs, but he fail to release any bombs. So, can AI wingman detect infantry with no vehicles in the immediate area? mjeh Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) From looking at some lua files (specifically Detection.lua in DCS World\Scripts\AI) it seems infantry can be detected from 250 meters max for ground vehicles and 30 meters max from aircraft, if I'm reading it correctly. If this is so then that in effect means infantry is immune to direct attack from AI aircraft Edited March 18, 2013 by mjeh correction
mjeh Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Well no I did some testing and it seems a ground vehicle can detect infantry at about 1km range. I don't know what the numbers in Detection.lua are related to, then.
pepin1234 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 you should set the air unit task like ground attack, then set attack map object [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Outlaw24 Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) you should set the air unit task like ground attack, then set attack map object Yes I understand that procedure, I'm trying to get my wingman to attack, a location given to us by JTAC and marked as a SPI. In principle I'm trying to get him to attack a location or point on the ground, but I don't think ground attack and a map object will work with your wingman. Quirkitized Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 You don't have the enemy group (infantry) marked as invisible under advance waypoint options do you? This would do it. Otherwise, maybe post the mission?

Otherwise, maybe post the mission? Thanks for the response, but no they are not set to invisible only JTAC is set to invisible. The manual indicates the AI will only see infantry is they are moving or shooting, but I thought the wingman would attack is given a specific location. Maybe, I'll have to re-think the mission, or give each squad a small vehicle of some type. maturin Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 The AI will pick out and engage MANPADs (even with PGM, lol), so give each enemy squad a Strela-carrier with orders not to fire.
