warthogmadman987 Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 i was wondering if any of these things they have listed here would be worth getting. the 3d glasses and, mic headset, and voicebuddy. How do they compare, even to track IR? is anything worthwhile?
Shepski Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I have the headset with mic and it is excellent... most comfortable headset I have had for the PC yet.
cjlive Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Voicebuddy only currently supports v1.01, v1.02. Version 3.0 of voicebuddy came with a utility to create your own profiles etc, but seems it can't create one for lockon - flaming cliffs. Cj
zaGURUinzaSKY Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 i was wondering if any of these things they have listed here would be worth getting. the 3d glasses and, mic headset, and voicebuddy. How do they compare, even to track IR? is anything worthwhile? I had the headset, quality of mic sucks and of headphones sucks too, (compared to a €80 sennheiser headset http://www.oticon.com/eprise/main/SennheiserCommunications/com/Products/CNT05_Pro-Gaming?ProductId=PC150 ). Also, now the arch it's broken... can't understand how. I don't see anything excellent in that headset... There's no high frequency at all... Robbie.
Shepski Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Do we have the same headset? I have the AudioFX set and it's been perfect.
zaGURUinzaSKY Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Do we have the same headset? I have the AudioFX set and it's been perfect. What do you mean perfect? The Senheiser frequency responce is: 18Hz to 22000Hz (headphone) and 80-15000 the microphone The AudioFX : they say 20-20,000Hz (I really doubt it, doesn't barely sounds like a 20-20000) and 30-16000 the mic (I doubt this too, a voice recorded with two mics shows much more quality in Senheiser, much more!) I have both and when I compare it with same audio track the different is the same between a C172 and a F-15.... Sound of AudioFX (compared with the other one) has no high frequency. Also, when I lower the volume it goes totally unbalanced (left right). I don't know if Edimensional did a different version , my headset look the same has this buut I bought it some time ago.. Also consider Sennheiser is a name in this market. Robbie.
Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I got sennheiser, and ive had about 7 different headsets, and not one has came close to the quality of the sennheiser, well one did, it was the plantronics one, but out of them 2 the digital sennheiser reigns supreme. my tuppence worth.
humpeligimp Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I use voicebuddy 3. Even though I could program my joystick to the same commands, i find it convenient for views, wingman commands and seldom used commands where it is easier to remeber a name than a button combination. To use it with Flaming cliffs, delete the lock on profile and make a new with the FC game window. It is also better to use a homemade profile in my opinion: You should configure your software to you. Not configure your self to your software. About the 3D glasses I have never heard about anyone actually owning them: Could be a sign that the game experience is not worth braggin about in a forum. If you consider buing them look here first: http://www.stereo3d.com/recommend.htm#shutter Edimensional is far from the only brand in that business
Weta43 Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Re the speaker response : The range of human hearing is generally regarded as being from 20Hz, through 20kHz (20,000Hz) for someone with good hearing. As you age the tops go... so if you're over 25 & work with power tools or listen to loud music paying for 18Hz - 22KHz is probably - Excessive ? (esp given the quality of the sound files in most games). Unless of course you intend to use them for listening to something other than MP3's etc, but for anything that's been compressed the better headset may sound better, but it's because of the shape of its response curve, not its absolute response range.. 3D glasses - there's a thread in the tech section. For the mic - if you're going to compress the signal before sending or limit the amount of bits used - anything reasonably above crap is as good as great - also if the people on the other end have dodgy gear they won't hear you any better if you're using a midrange mic than a studio quality one... Cheers.

Just try the two headset if numbers doesn't make you happy... difference is the same you see between http://www.realdoll.com and http://www.playboy.com You know what I mean? I have both, difference is huge. (HUGE). Also mic when used with ventrilo makes difference. Robbie.
Weta43 Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Guru - I didn't say they wouldn't sound any different, just that what difference there is will be down to their improved responces across the whole spectrum - not to the fact that they respond from 18Hz to 22KHz. Also - as soon as you listen to anything that's been compressed - those extreeme frequencies simply aren't there to reproduce... but the bits in the middle might sound much nicer. The mic - same thing. & the additional point was that if 4 out of 5 people listening are listening on $15 headphones / $30 speakers then only 1 out of 5 will hear how good you sound anyway. / + in flight sims crap is more authentic - the airforce don't invest in Hi-Fi voice coms :-) / The better speakers will probably sound nicer, be more comfortable & last longer etc, just don't buy them for the bits outside 22Hz and 18KHz... Cheers.

I've had no problems whatsoever and for me, "it's perfect". :)
zaGURUinzaSKY Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 ok , anyway I wrote my opinion, hope it's helfpful to warthogmadman987 .. Robbie.

warthogmadman987 Posted December 12, 2005 Author Posted December 12, 2005 ya guys that really helps but i dont want to spend too much. Anyone know of a good cheap mic. Like less the 30$, preferably 15-25?
Prophet_169th Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I have a USB Logitech headset that had been great. Went through 2 Plantronics A90s before that, mic went out on both.
