Hi all.

Since we're all awaiting for the EDGE I am here to propose making a Balkan theater after it's release.

I want to gather a team of people in time who will make this.

As far as I am concerned, my skills (profesional) are based on Adobe program package, focused on Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. I also have knowledge and expirience in other Adobe apps and raster/vector graphic.

And learning new techniques and apps is not a problem.

Plan is to make the ex-Yugoslavia states at the begining and then spread the theater to Italy eventually with constant updates to complexity of the theater over time.

This would be a great project including a lot of work.

Anyone interested in that?

great idea

come on people make this happen...

The tools would have to be released as well, and as far as I know there has been no mention of that.

Isn't EDGE been anounced?

Even if it doesn't get "public", people can still make theater and submit it as a 3rd party development.

You do 3d models in 3d model making program - said in english.

You do textures in program made for that.

When you make everything - then you convert it to format required by app.

It is not like the EDGE is gonna be a open-source engine like cryengine or x-ray...

And even there, you make models outside of it.

Developers still do what they know how to, and convert those to sim-required file format.

Am I right?

BTW, that is more recent theater of war in real life, many people know about it, and I believe they'll be interested in flying a detailed new-age theater which, guess what, coresponds with planes used in 1999. over Balkan.

Mig29s

Mig21

F18

F16

F15...

With development of modules for DCS, Balkan Theater is the place to be.

Question is, are we brave enough to cope the project for it's balls, pardon my saying :)

we need Romania in it also.

We could have B-24 bombers escorts with P51. And maybe later some 109 G2s and IAR 80/81s :D

..and P38.

I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A,

Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least

It is a very interesting theater, since many wars took place in XX and XXI century.

And yes, it is my idea to get to the point where theater would consist of

EX-Yugoslavia countries

Neighbour Countries to what was Yugoslavia before 1991.

Italy (for 1999. NATO operations)

...

We make Balkans

Someone makes western Europe...

Someone else north Europe...

Get the picture? :)

It is us who are to help DCS become best thing that ever happened to sim world :D

Not really. You don't just "make a scenery" then "convert it" to ED's proprietary terrain formats. It's a process that must be undertaken sequentially. That said, there's no harm in gathering resources... just be realistic about it. We have no clue what ED's plans for EDGE are. As the great philosopher Jon Bon Jovi once said, you're "livin' on a prayer."

Well... We want to make something epic, which can get money for them aswell.

If they don't see the opportunity in giving us support, their loss is greatest here.

Even so, I am aware of the things you say, but my idea is

there's no harm in gathering resources
and the one of main ingredients here are people willing to work on the project seriously and as much as their time allows them.

TY for joining the discussion mate :)

I wish I had the time to contribute but I'll offer what moral support I can. GO TEAM! YOU CAN DO IT!

I guess the only thing to do until EDGE is released, though, is to gather reference materials and decide on what's "canon" for the Balkan Peninsula.

Hopefully EDGE will be smarter with blending the various assets together - Given the staggering immensity of simulator maps it's no wonder people build an engine and then fill it out from a catalog of tessellating parts, but sometimes I wish they'd bite the bullet and craft the maps more by hand, to get that sense of a natural, idiosyncratic landscape you get in smaller arenas where they just paste a satellite photo onto a topographic map.

...Maybe then they could have an engine tile in smaller assets when you get closer, like the current ground clutter, based on the colors or other set characteristics of that pixel/region (trees, buildings, rock), like those programs they use to make those posters where the main image is made up of hundreds of smaller, related pictures, their colors averaged out...

A guy can dream...
