stelr Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 If I fly in the Training missions I am able to access all of the controls, including the ones mapped to my CH HOTAS. However, as soon as I move into the CAMPAIGN or MISSION I have no control all all. Movement of my joystick shows the joystick in the cockpit moving correspondingly, but the control surfaces do not move at all! Even the mouse shows no functionality in the cockpit. If I go back to TRAINING missions, I regain controls again. This is puzzling, and I can't even begin to think what is causing this. I may need to uninstall and try re-installing. What think? Also, if I do uninstall, how can I save my CH Profile? Tks in advance for any assistance! v/r Stel
sobek Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 There are 2 sets of controls, those for easy flight mode and those for real flight mode. Please make sure that you have the correct flight model mode chosen in the options for the controls set you want to use. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
stelr Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 There are 2 sets of controls, those for easy flight mode and those for real flight mode. Please make sure that you have the correct flight model mode chosen in the options for the controls set you want to use. Tks for the quick response! Rgr. I have real flight mode on for SIM. After rebooting I got most of flight controls back, but it apparently deleated my rudder mapping and replaced it with my throttle axis. It basically just copied my throttle "Z" axis to my rudder. I had to remap the rudder and brakes and re-save the file. Very strange. I will re-fly today to see what else, if anything has changed. Frustrating. v/r Stel
BSS_Tintin Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 (edited) I have experienced something similar; I've only just bought the P-51 and was happy to go with all keys default and just assign throttle, prop, hot/cold air, aileron, elevator and rudder on my Saitek X65 in combo with CH Thr quad and CH rudder (if anybody wonder; go CH instead of Saitek - muuuuch better quelity!! ;-) but anyway). I have made sure that I select the P-51 Sim (not game), the flight mode I am not sure about (will check). Thing is; when I start DCS (as Administrator on my old Vista) does it remember my last used profile or not - there is no way of telling which profile is active. So, I always Load MY profile before I go flying, however, some times when I enter Quick Mission mode some of the mappings are changed, i.e. rudder axis suddenly appear on my throttle quad etc. I quit the mission and re-enter the Options and re-open My Profile...and... woops suddenly EVERYTHING is gone - litterarily - no keys are mapped, and only a few axis, but certainly not the ones I wanted... WHAT THE H... HAPPENED TO MY PROFILE FILE????? It's like it's a little Gremlin in there...;-(. I have spent 4 hurs today - including re/assigning EVERYTHING twice... I am very ancious to hear from anyone with a workaround or an answer to my problem. Cheers, BSS_Tintin P.S. NOT a happy trooper at the moment... Oh, yes! For heavens sake DCS; put a RETURN ALL TO DEFAULT button there pppppplease - it takes about 30 minutes (at least) to do each button individually... ;-) Edited April 6, 2013 by BSS_Tintin
cichlidfan Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Oh, yes! For heavens sake DCS; put a RETURN ALL TO DEFAULT button there pppppplease - it takes about 30 minutes (at least) to do each button individually... ;-) To reset the controls you just need to delete the desired controller files from your Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input folders. BSS_Tintin Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 ...aaahhhhhh:music_whistling: the Oracle has spoken ... THX a million! However, it does't really explain why it all went "tits up" in the first place. The road to recovery however, is now made light-years shorter. Will go and try again, right away:joystick: Cherio' Tin'

BSS_Tintin Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Just tried it - no joy, when I boot my game having deleted the only settings file I ever created it now start up w/o any keys assigned... Sheisse!! P.S. who says Tintin is mortal...??? ...woooaaaaahahaha....
cichlidfan Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 What file/folder did you delete? At this point I would delete the keyboard folder for the aircraft and flight mode you trying to fix. BSS_Tintin Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 oh... the sweet taste of success...!!!! Finally I figured out how DCS stores/creates fiels for Keyboard and Joystick whenever you modify something. I deleted all files under User files (or something) and onwards to Keyboard and Joystick. I just left similar files under Default as they where. When I then restarted the game ... woalah!! :-) Now I have opted NOT TO SAVE ANY CONFIG FILES as DCS does that automatically pr. A/C. I really appretiate you taking the time to help me out here Chilidfan. S! I shall promptly return to the poney-pit' and learn the ropes. Eventually I shall be victoriuos... or develop a rather sore bottom... Tin' out
cichlidfan Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Just an FYI. How I manage my controls is as follows. Save each and every controller config that I modify under a specific filename (usually in Saved Games\DCS\Config) and the back them up elsewhere. This includes the keyboard config if I have reason to change it, though I try to avoid that when possible. If anything gets hosed I delete the entire ...DCS\Config\Input\<aircraft name> folder and, once the system resets, then import my saved files again. This has worked well for me. BSS_Tintin Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Sounds like a good way of managing the settings files. I'll do same, thx ;-)
FA_Bong Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I got the sim over the Easter weekend and I set up everything for Sim. I had no problem using my basic knowledge about the Mustang and looking up a couple of keystrokes to getting up and flying, did most of the training missions with no surprises. However this morning it is driving me crazy.. doing counter clockwise rotations while taxiing with full right rudder, wandering all over the runway like a drunken sailor, and even a slow speeds rolling off the runway and exploding..WTF? ( the damage is way over done) I started in the air and with neutral controls it's rolling and diving and cannot get trimmed to a reasonable state, not hands off mind you just flying without lots of corrections to maintain straight and level. A quick check of other sims had no weirdness so it's not the stick itself which is an X52, I just don't get it I tried putting deadzones and curves on the axis in case it was shooting random inputs but it still acts like it's possessed.
Foul Ole Ron Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Hit ctrl + enter when flying and have a look at the control inputs to see what they're doing. Sounds like you might be getting a conflict between a couple of things. I had this before when I plugged in the pedals for the first time. They ended up getting automatically mapped to the elevator controls for some unknown reason. As for the ground behaviour make sure you keep the stick back a little to ensure that the tailwheel is locked or you'll be spinning around. Keep the power at 3000 and 46" max for takeoff as torque can be tough to control especially when getting used to the sim. Check your takeoff assistance and auto-rudder settings as well. You'll probably want auto-rudder off and takeoff assistance to be set to 0%. You have to be light and quick on the rudder during takeoff or you'll end up doing that side to side waddle and skid off the runway due to all the powerthe 'stang puts out.
FA_Bong Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I know about holding the stick back to lock the tail wheel and it is still doing weird stuff, full right rudder and it turns left like a brake shoe is locked. The other thing I had happen was going through the start-up sequence exactly and getting no start so after a while out of frustration I tried just using the auto-start sequence and it still doesn't start although it says it's ready to fly and then after finally succeeding getting the aforementioned weird stuff. After my first post I went into the stick settings in Windows control panel and gave all the centers a small deadzone, there appeared to be a little noise in the trim wheels so I went into the game and everything worked fine. I rebooted then the problems all came back plus some graphical flickering on airfield fences I never had before I just don't get what the issue is because it's so random. Oh Well, Back to the drawing board..
PatrickR Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I had exactly the same problem - a short investigation showed that the Saitek Throttle Quadrant was mapped to control axes instead of engine & Prop! Disconnected - problem solved!! Now to plug em back in & re-map. I'm sure that if you look into your controls menu you will find that it is a similar conflict causing your problems.
BSS_Tintin Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I had some problems with loss of control assigments when trying to save set-ups in files which I duly loaded before starting up. For reasons I could not explain the control set-up and axis assignment kept changing. Have you checked to make sure that not one of you axis on you HOTAS has accidently (or by itself) been mapped to the rudder? You could be trying to fly it with some right rudder fed in all the time e.g. from an un-used rotary knob or something... Looks like quite a few of us are experiensing the DCS gremlins these days... Hope a solution emerges real soon. :-) Cheers Tin'
