Hi folks,

Have just completed a complete un-install & re-install of new update with same problem on following spec:

Xeon X5680 (6 core , 3.33ghz , turbo on) 8 gb ddr3 1333, Sapphire HD 7870 2 GB XT BOOST , 120 gb ssd , single 20" monitor, win 7 64

I have vsynch on and the fps is a steady 60 fps (over water & city) matched to my monitor refresh rate

What I have noticed is when I point cockpit towards any activity ( if i switch labels on I can see activity in distance) or an external view in direction of activity my fps will suddenly drop to an average of 8 - 13 fps . Even during a cold start on ramp if I look through cockpit to an area thats got activity I get big fps drop. Turning away from activity direction will see fps go back up to around 60 ( I.e. flying in opposite direction) .

In game settings are medium with water/shadows low & no civ traffic / HDR or TSSAA

Also tried overclocking card slightly which sees a big jump in 3dmark but no difference in DCS

Can anyone point me towards a cure?

Is this a multi-core issue possibly ?

Seem to be able to play anything else on high settings at top fps rate with no issues (arma3 , Bioshock)

Thanks in advance

Hey, i hope you do realize that the intel XEON processor are designed for Workstations and servers and are not really used for gaming or desktop use. I think one thing that you could do is try lower all the settings to low and try each setting to medium then high and determine what the root of the problem is. I do however have a feeling that it is your CPU.

Thanks Rykane,

Will be looking at a new build with current I7 now

Before you jump the gun and buy a new CPU, first test all the settings and see if there is a problem with any of the settings within the game that are causing your FPS drop. I sometimes notice a FPS drop with my rig when looking at a large area with buildings/airports. You might have to tweak the graphics config file and see what you can do from there. If you've tried everything and it still drops in FPS then your option should be to probably get a new CPU.

Just ordered a Asrock P67 xtreme6 and a I5 3570K cause of it's reviews & oc'ing :-(

Best forget I5 all together ??

Could you create a track file of when your machine gives bad performance?

Then we can run that on our machines and see if we get bad performance too.

It's not certain that it's your machine, because honestly that Xeon isn't super bad and your graphics card is pretty good.

No, that i5 is great, just get a good cooler and you will be able to overclock a lot.

with the overall game performance i´m not to unhappy... just i look into a direction with many units... the frames rush down from about 45-60 down to 15-20... sometimes even less

usually i play with high settings... and if i lower them in order to a few more frames this only works in when i already have a higher framerate... when i got bad fps because of many units it doesnt really matter if i chose high or low settings...

a better cpu helps, but not that far as we all would wish... its the game engine that bottlenecks itself

I've tried the track, and I get pretty bad frame rate in the beginning when the view is on the action, about 12 to 16 fps, around 20 when not looking at the action.

After you took off the frame rate increased, even as you were watching the action, 30-35 fps.

My guess is that there's just a bit too much going on at the same time the start of the mission.

These are my settings:

My PC specs are in my sig.

Cheers Yellownet,

Think I'll hold off new cpu/mobo combo just yet and tinker more with the settings. Failing that I'll just fly during any lulls or ceasefires :-)

Thanks again

Almost anything your see in the responses is worth a try. Here's what made a dramatic improvement in my FPS:

(1) Replaced h/d with SSD

(2) Reduced screen resolution during play from 2550 X 1600 to standard hi-def 1920 X 1080 (cannot see any difference in detail but fps really jumped)

(3) In simulation options, reduced shrubbery and clutter to about 10% of maximum visual range supported.

Hi JH,

Yep on SSD and have reduced screen res , tried lowering all in game settings and tinkering in bios.

I can't understand why the fps drop so low when I'm in cockpit facing any activity or externally facing same direction.

Surely if it was a cpu prob the frame rate would stay low no matter what direction I was facing while it did the maths.

But flying or facing away from action area I get constant 40 fps (maxfps set)

I'll keep tinkering
