rlogue Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 I'm having alot of trouble spotting other aircraft in the game. It seems like a texture loading issue, I can be looking right at the aircraft at 1 mile of even closer, as the aircraft gets a little farther out it just kind of disappears and blends into the background. This makes things really difficult when flying even tactical formations. Can't keep the other player in view very well. Has anybody else experienced this ?
bflagg Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 all the time... I jsut deal with it... Thanks, Brett

That's what an aircraft does - it's a very small object in a very big sky. What we're really missing in Lomac is the glinting effect. Light reflects off metal and paintwork in a way that we simply don't get in Lomac . . . . the famous wing flash. Interestingly, the new USAF paint schemes (most evident on the Raptor) are designed to minimise this effect - modern low-vis technology is designed to create what we're seeing in Lomac ;) There's more to it, but the reflection is the big thing. Otherwise, Lomac is generally pretty good. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
rlogue Posted December 17, 2005 Author Posted December 17, 2005 I'm aware that the sky is big and the aircraft is small. I'm talking about distances where yoiu should easily be able to keep view of your wingman. Seems like there are various stages of texture loading and one of them is causing me to not see the other aircraft. I'm pretty sure that while flying in tactical formation you can see your wingman or they wouldn't fly in tactical formation. An F15 at 4000-6000 ft abreast should be very easy to see ... in the game, it is not. This is my problem, anybody ?

I invite you to consider how far away a mile is - and then to remove the "glint" of light off a camouflaged object and try and spot it at that distance ;) Very easy to see? Not exactly. IIRC, there is a low LOD stage, then a step to a higher LOD stage, and I think there's still a point at which the texture for the aircraft loads. This was Extremely noticable in Flanker 2 - the actual skin wasn't loaded until well within visual range, and you could see the aircraft switch from the placeholder dark blue to the lighter, skin texturing. There was indeed a step down in visibility at that point, but I don't think that's the major cause of vis problems at the moment. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
zorlac Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 as a temporary test, try turning down your GFX card Anti-Aliasing (or turn it off) then try your tests a few times. I was amazed at how much further away objects on the ground and in the sky remained visible. 1
rlogue Posted December 18, 2005 Author Posted December 18, 2005 That is something I will try ... as far as the real world visiblility goes, I fly .. quite a bit. I would never fly again if I could not see aircraft till they were within one mile!
iVIPER21 Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Also try turning up your Anisotropic filtering. I run mine at 8x and it seems to help me.
ARM505 Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 I wouldn't say it the reflections that attract my eye to other aircraft in real life - it's more their relative motion across the background. In real life planes seem to stand out from the background in ways that sims just dont do. Perhaps its a haze thing, the background is more 'washed out' or maybe there is just *more* background IRL. Its difficult to say, but its not totally the reflections. Its also the way the eye works. I can be flying, and looking at what I think is empty sky. I would swear there's nothing there - meanwhile, my fellow crew member is saying 'Look, look, it's right there!!', and once I see the other plane, it's obvious and I wonder how I missed it! Wonderful thing TCAS is.....
Guest Cali Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 It's hard to get that view/look in a computer game (now). Maybe in the feature they will be able to, but a monitor/video card/computer can't do it yet.
Guest IguanaKing Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Wonderful thing TCAS is..... Amen to that! TCAS has already saved my life once.
anivanov Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 and i have some problems.I have downloaded and installed some skin(i think it"s not important which one).At bigger distances aircraft looks like he have default skins(for example i fly with su-33) and when he comes in range in one mile i can see this new skin normally.maybe it"s some gfx bug i think, and maybe not:confused::confused::confused::confused:...........do you know something about that?
