I read through ALLLLLL the threads in here about this and to be honest I was disheartened not only by the volume of similar problems but by the lack of anyone helping with the problem. There's a lot of people begging for help to set up a multiplay server that were posted back in 2012 and no one has answered.

I did the port forward thing. 10308 on the UDP and TCP slots. Done. still my friends cannot see my server listed.

I even googled my IP address and used that IP in the Internet Address line. Still no love.

What am I and a lot of other people missing??

You mean Windows 7 Firewall? The port forwarding is done in my routers' firewall settings, so that shouldnt be the issue.

Disabling antivirus and Windows Firewall didn't help either.

Thats very strange, yes i ment the windows 7 firewall, but if you say you dissabled it and it didnt work, it makes no difference.

Which IP did you port forward? You need to port forward from the IP that is assigned by your router- not the google "what is my ip" search.

YEah I did... but that didnt work for any of us so we tried the what is my IP as well. :helpsmilie:

I've been frustrated by the same thing. I did a lot of working on my network and killed it at one point. Port forwarding, static IP, all the junk. It's a mess especially when you have a real IP and one that your router assigns your machine that isn't your real IP. Each machine, router, modem, etc seems to operate differently (or can) so it gets rather complex. I think that is why the help seems lacking. It's hard to help someone when there are so many possible problems or possible issues. I followed about 8 different tutorials on how to setup a static IP and port forward and while I was successful in some of them I could still not set up a server that my friends could see. My friend has a simpler network than I do and he finally tried it and got it done. So he hosts now and I just play!

No help, I know. It's just a very complex issue.

I figured it out finally. It was indeed as you say Gryphon... very frustrating and time consuming. No game has ever given me this kind of problem. Usually, I get a Windows pop up asking if such and such a program can access the internet and when I say yes, it knows for the next time. Issue solved.

Didn't get any popups with this game. ANd as you say, I had to rely on a friend all the time.

SO... my router was allowing me to set up the ports but wasn't saving them when I exited. I finally figured out how to modify an existing profile in the router and changed the port number and that worked.

Thanks all.

Glad you're back in action Digital. If I can help with MP server related things I have some "detailed files" from operating an open server (the Firehouse.)

I'm no tech guy- just someone who has endured a variety of trials while trying to successfully host a 24/ 7 server that is open to the public.
