I apologize if this has been addressed before, but I just got the following system and was wondering what the thoughts are about it for running the sim:

Core i7-3770

NVidia GTX660 3GB DDR5

32GB RAM

I think the processor is fine, but I am not sure if the graphics card is "enough". Many thanks.

It should run quite well.

DCS World is free, so you can test it yourself.

Thanks so much. Any thoughts on a touch screen monitor? Not sure if the resolution would make it really workable?

I am not sure what you mean. If you were thinking of one single touch screen where you can manipulate switches without a mouse, I would probably say not the best idea. You would have to do a lot of zooming in and out just to manipulate switches.

A touch panel as an additional monitor is whole different situation.

I was thinking of the first one. I was wondering about that, although it would be very slick to not have to me mousing around. Would also work well with my Win8 system. Thank you for your insight.

There is a thread around here somewhere that shows a T-shaped 4 screen setup (3 across and one below center) where the lower monitor is a touch screen. It apparently works rather well if the view is setup correctly.

Thanks, I will try to find it. I can run two monitors with my new card. Another card for two more and that would probably mean more power and a bigger case maybe to fit the extra card on the board. And then two monitors. Oh well, there is always more someone can add.

Thanks for all your responses.

I've recently purchased a touchscreen overlay -its pretty cheap at around $100AUD from China, for one specifically 23" size(they have a size for any screen - its from aliexpress.com). It straps on with velcro that goes all the way around your monitor so is very sturdy, and the overlay itself is thick and strong so you can bash away at it with your fingers no problems in the heat of the action :)

The only hard part was taking the time to align exactly with the monitor so that your finger taps are accurate to the where you are tapping. But its easy enough if you get someone to help you hold it while you adjust the straps.

It also has an unexpected side affect of making the monitor look a lot like a crt in terms of visual quality. it feels a lot more like an IPS screen now.

The reason I did this is because you cant get any 120hz monitors capable of multitouch(at least non that I could find).

It works really well with DCS:A-10C because you are able to get nice and close to the buttons when you lean forward with a TrackIR.

One thing that does take a few days to get used to is however keeping your headstill while you reach forward with your arms other wise you can easily miss the button - especially if you aren't zoomed enough.

But even still TrackIR with a touchscreen monitor is very cool, really does feel like you are pushing the buttons in the cockpit without building a cockpit yourself :)

My rig:

i5 3570k

GTX 660

8 gb RAM

TrackIR5

I average around 50 fps once in the air, maybe 35-40 on the ground with everything on max settings, except the brush slider is only like halfway.

Things are progressing very well. I still have the 22" monitor and the MFDs have not yet arrived, but I have the Warthog HOTAS setup, and TrackIR 5. Wow, what a great experience that all is. I have my settings as:

Textures, Scenes, Water, Vis Range, Shadows all set to High

Civ Traffic, Heat Blur, and HDR are Off

MSAA is 8

Cockpit Resolution is 1024

My monitor res is 1280 x 960 (still playing around with that)

Clutter is 0

Trees is 6000

Radius is 150000

I am running full screen with TSSAA check on

I am getting high 60s in high flight and as much as 48 down low. Smooth as silk as they say.

Thanks for all your input. I didn't realize how easy TrackIR would be and how much of a difference it makes. Everything was pretty much plug and play. A couple of tweaks with TrackIR on smoothing and speed, and a couple tweaks on the settings on the stick and that is it.
