EddieMuntz Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) Im trying to put new nose art and pilot name, on an existing stock skin, how do i open an exsiting skin to to place the image? Or is it a more convoluted like editing a template folder and description.lua file? Thanks very much in advance Edited July 31, 2013 by EddieMuntz
Evil.Bonsai Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 You'll have to download the photoshop file of the default skin and edit it in photoshop. There are skin tutorials around, but I've found them a bit too convoluted.

Or is it a more convoluted like editing a template folder and description.lua file? Thanks very much in advance http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/misc/ Here are the miscellaneous files for DCS. There is a pack of PSD files that you can open up in Photoshop or GIMP and put a new layer in with your nose art and name. There is a little bit more to getting it into the proper form for DCS. Once you are done with the photoshopping you have to save it as a 24 bit bitmap then convert it to a DDS file. I use DXTbmp for that. Then make a new folder in your liveries, pop it in there, and edit the .lua file (the most complicated part in my opinion but not bad). That's the simple version. Like he said, there are tutorials out there. Some are a bit quick, some are convoluted, but they all help some. Let me know if you have questions. http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EddieMuntz Posted August 1, 2013 Author Posted August 1, 2013 Thanks loads, i found your skinning tutorial on you tube so ill have a look, i had a go last night which was a bit convoluted, i ended copying the A10 zip folder in textures then picking out the squadron, opening the file in DXT saving as bmp photo shopping and re converting adding back in to the zip and back in to textures. The only problem i have found is that when rendered in game there are access panels which aren't "painted " in the nose art, i think the panels are on the particular texture map for the canopy area of the plane but i can really spot them, Like all things i will read up and give it another crack. Cheers EM

Cheers EM No problem. It is a bit of an odd process trying to edit your files and convert them and all that junk. There is a model viewer that you can use to speed it up but I've never used it. Some of the smaller things are tough to find in the textures. On the "A" texture there are some access panels, but the only one that I remember the location of is the inside of the ladder door towards the upper right side of that first texture (the forward area of the fuselage texture). Good luck! http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EddieMuntz Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 Thanks mate I seem to remember a link to a template with orange lines around the panels to identify the boundaries ill look it out. Will post it when it's done, it's wile coyote riding a maverick plane name " Proper Job" not bad for a first stab
