Flagrum Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 There was already some discussion about the Flexible Sight of the co-pilot and that it is hard to use with a head tracker. Then we got a settings option to disable the aiming with a head tracker. But all this is still, sorry, crap imho. Way too much hassle to pause/unpause the head tracker, too inprecise, knots in the fingers (ALT+C for mouse look or MMB doubleclick), etc. How I would imagine an implementation for the Flexible Sight: Leave the head tracker alone, let it do it's job: looking around. Control the Flexible Sight with the mouse, allow a mapping of a mouse button for fireing. Perhaps allow another mouse button to be mapped to a function "release flexi sight" to end the mouse controlling the sight and return to it's normal function. That way I could move the sight precisely where I want it to be and engage my target. Perhaps the pipper was moved out of my line of sight? Yeah, so I move my head accordingly. This way it would resemble the RL operation quite well, I'd say. With one hand I grab the sight handle and move it (in our case: mouse) - and I have to move my head around accordingly (head tracker).
codenamepanzer Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 I was successfull to control the flexible with the mouse in 1.2.5 with pausing the trackir. Now in 1.2.6 i cannot. Therefore, I am successful controlling the gunners aiming and firing with the mouse pausing the trackir like in 1.2.5
zaelu Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) I find it a good compromise as is today... I use it only with Freetrack headtracker which gives me good aiming (not like mouse in battlefied 3 but it wouldn't be realistic either). What it would be good is to limit leaning distance (modifieing view.lua does the trick but just until you switch positions in heli... after is back to default). Cause when I lean forward I pass through the sight... same happens in Mi-l 8 Also having autopilot at disposal but not to kick in automatic when activating flexible sight. I have to give up on AP capabilities just to get rid of this annoyances (press 2 to enter copilot... press flexible sight buton... boom! no control!... press LWin+A to keep control of AC)... Yes... I fly the heli while firing the miniguns... until we can fly multiple people same AC... PS But I don't like that we are forced to aim with headtracker while in gunners.. my hands are free then.. I can't fly the heli while sitting in a gunner... so I usually land then. Flagrum Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 Pausing the head tracker is only a compromise, barely bearable, while aiming with my head? no, sorry, won't write here what I think about that. :o)
jay43 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I'd like to get control of this back to buttons with the first launch of the Huey you could assign the movement of the flexi to a pov hat switch which also gave control to the guns to the pilot to from his seat. Now its not possible. Eagles may soar high but weasel's don't get sucked into jet engines. System Spec. Suchacz Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Flagrum +1 There are already at least two topics with the same idea. It would be great if this functionality should be implemented  Per aspera ad astra!
