VanjaB Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Like the title says, I have a 64GB Intel SSD and on it I have precisely two things installed. Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Edition and DCS: World (A10C, Huey, P51, Mi-8). My problem is this, I have exactly 5.5 GBs of free space left!! How do I clear up some of it? Are there any tools that one can use to get rid of unecessary Windows files and directories?
Rhinox Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 ...Are there any tools that one can use to get rid of unecessary Windows files and directories? Try Ccleaner. Apart from that, clear all tmp-files (i.e. C:\users\user\appdata\local\temp), old restore-points, prefetch-data, web-browser cache, etc.
TimeKilla Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Also remember that you should keep I think 10% to 20% of your SDD free or it could slow it down or cause other issues. I don't agree with this am out school and think you should be able to fill it up and it should work but others dispute that. :joystick: YouTube :pilotfly: TimeKilla on Flight Sims over at YouTube.
cichlidfan Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) You need a larger SSD to do what you want to do, well. I tried it about two years ago with a 60GB and maintenance was too much trouble. EDIT: Though I doubt it makes enough size difference to matter, why are you running Win 7 Ultimate when HP would probably suffice? EDIT2: If you have added a significant number of skins, those can be a space killer. ligthert Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Lower your Pagefile.sys size. Disable hibernation on your rig. Saved me ~24G in space. :) 1 ( I play way to much ArmA and DCS. :joystick: )
VanjaB Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 Thanks for all the suggestions, will try them out when I get home from work today.
Erforce Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 like ligthert said. hibernation when you have 8Gb of Ram, equals 8Gb os hdd. i have a 256Gb SSD, and everything installed (some games, some apps, some music) i have 70-100Gb free. not enough for what i do. how could you manage it with 64gb ? :) 1 TASK / ROLES acronyms guide Black Shark A.I. datalink guide illustrated (v1.2.4 Available on Wiki) DCS World Codex 1.1 : full units list (Speed/Weapons/Armor thickness/Threat zone/Weapon damage...) cichlidfan Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I hope nobody has hibernation turned on in the first place. That and sleep get disabled immediately after a Windows install for all of my machines.
