So usually I can stumble through the forums and editor and figure out what I'm trying to do, but I'm stymied this time.

I'm trying to get an SA-10 site to activate (actually just start radiating) when a unit enters a trigger zone. Prior to the unit entering the trigger zone I don't want the SA-10 constantly setting of the RWR, so I want it to be visible if one happened to slew their TGP toward it, but not active until the unit is X KM from the site.

I understand the late activation setting, but that just spawns the unit it upon being triggered. I want the unit to be there all along, but only turn the radar on once a unit enters the trigger zone. I'm sure it has something to do with RED and GREEN states, but I don't understand how to trigger those states.

Anyone have a quick answer to make me feel even dumber? <G>

PS - And once it's activated it can stay active, I don't need it to shutdown after the unit exits the trigger zone. I just want the user to be able to concentrate on an earlier part of the mission without the constant aggravating growl of the SA-10 tone on their RWR..

Aha! Very nice.. Thank you. Although I had to pare it back from an SA-10 to an SA-6 site... <g> the -10 is impossible!!

And many thanks to Danny V for the awesome templates (which seem to still work with DCS World..)

Realistic Templates.. That allowed for a quick setup of a realistic looking SA-6 site..

I've found that SAMs aren't doing well with the AI on / off functions- I use something similar in my "WartWeasel" mission... once they're activated they just stay on.

I think it's a bug.

But yes, activating it with unit in zone is simple enough with the "run once" / group (coalition / unit / part of group) in zone / group activate... or AI on.

The thing is when you go "AI on" unless it's turned off in the first place- it will radiate right from the beginning of the mission.

May be easier to just late activate the group and click on the "visible before start" box in the unit window in the mission editor. Once the unit flies in the zone, the SAM system activates and radiates...

Alternately you can have "groups / coalition / units out of zone, AI off" and a groups / coalition etc / units in zone, AI on."

"ENO"

Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret.

The way I tend to do things like this would be to first set two "Switched Condition" triggers, Group or Unit In Zone (or moving zone) and Group or Unit Out of Zone. Can be "Part of" or "All of", your choice. I would then set them to, for example:

Trigger 1 All of Group In Zone -> Flag 1 On / Flag 2 Off

Trigger 2 All of Group Out of Zone -> Flag 1 Off / Flag 2 On

Then I go to the SAM group and open the Advanced Waypoint Actions window. We know the SAM site isn't going to be mobile, so it's just easier to do it this way, but to each his or her own. In Advanced Actions add 1 Type Set Option -> Alarm State Green. Then add 2 Set Option -> Alarm State Red. For Alarm State Green, click the "Condition" button and set "Is User Flag" to 2. For Alarm State Red set to Is User Flag 1.

That should do the trick I would think. So now as that flight or unit or even anyone from that coalition side if you so choose enters the trigger zone, the site will go active, and it should be silent when they're out of the zone.

Also,

Use Triggered Actions to have the site group's Alarm and ROE options and use an event action to turn them on and off.

St3v3f has made some very nice scripts to limit the detection of the triggering units, like in here -

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=112179

The script above from St3v3f will set the 'in zone' flag to True and False when the desired type of platform is detected in the zone and then leaves the zone. There may be available now a new Mist function to toggle the flag for 'in zone' vs 'out of zone', but I am using the above,,, works well.
