Fifi Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Hi again, An other noob/stupid question (sorry for that): - What is difference between easy com enabled or not enabled? - It seems with easy com desabled, i can't contact tower for taxi/take off etc, even proper FM band on...what am i missing? - With easy com enabled, even setting whatever FM band, i can contact tower...? Would be great to have a beginner tutorial about radio com in DCS World  [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cichlidfan Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Easy Comms means, as you have discovered, that you don't have to set the radio channel. IIRC, it also means... Nevermind, here it is from the manual. Easy Communication. With Easy Communication on, the radios will automatically tune to the selected recipient's frequency. In addition, the radio menu will only display objects present in the mission and highlight those with whom contact is possible. With Easy Communication off, the player has to tune the correct radio set to the correct frequency for the desired contact and select the correct contact out of the full radio contacts menu. Fifi Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Yes, but i'm probably still missing something. I have easy com desabled. In my Huey, i set proper 138000 on my FM radio to contact Tibilti Lochini tower, turn radio power on (i can hear the squelch test), bring the radio menu and choose ATC, demand for approach/landing = no response... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Fifi Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 In the Huey, beeing at Batumi airfield for instance, i set the VHF radio to 131000Mhz (batumi tower) then turn battery "on" + VHF power "on", then turn the switch to "3"...and no response when asking via com menu to start engine... It doesn't work on any airfield (cold start or engine running) :helpsmilie: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Robin_Hood Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Do you use the "pilot trigger radio" (or something along the line) to pop the comms menu ? 1 2nd French Fighter Squadron
Fifi Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) Do you use the "pilot trigger radio" (or something along the line) to pop the comms menu ? BINGO! Thanks a lot, all is fine now  BTW, for the Huey it's called "pilot trigger radio", but the same feature is called differently in other modules!! :( Could some kind pilot over here tell me how it is called ("pilot trigger radio" fonction) in the numerous options of P51, MI8, SU 25A and KA50 please? Have some great trouble finding keys because my game is in French and half the keys are listed English, half in French... @ MadTommy: thanks for your link and help! Edited October 23, 2013 by Fifi [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Robin_Hood Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Glad I could help! I'll try and do a little bit more: - for FC3, the (only) key would be called "Communication menu" - should work for the SU-25A - for the Mi-17 (Mi-8MTV2), it should be "Radio trigger RADIO", although sometimes it's working for me and sometimes not (gets stuck on Interphone) - for the P-51D, from a test I just ran, both "COMM Communication menu" and "COMM Push to talk" seemed to work - I would advise the latter (besides, it makes the radio switch on the throttle move, so I'd wager it's the intended key). Note that the P-51D has to have the radio channels preset in the Mission Editor beforehand. I don't own the Ka-50 (not the DCSW-compatible version, that is), so I can't help you there. Also: - the A-10C has 3 different keys (Mic switch) for the 3 radios En espérant que ça t'aidera :) It's a bit of a mess, really, with all those keys for the same purpose  2nd French Fighter Squadron
Fifi Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Thanks again Robin  Good info for me, i'll test it tomorrow now. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
VanjaB Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 From what Ive been able to discern "easy communication" seems borked, at least in the Huey campaign and in the few Mi-8 missions. At least I could not get it to work. I simply did it the 'hard' way and it worked.
Cibit Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 The default key is \, but this never works on my keyboards.. i also have to reassign it. Strange the default for me is # key maybe thats why it isnt working for you mate:music_whistling: i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
Fifi Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Have to check it, but the default key might change from a module to an other too... The listed names are different here from a module to an other, for the same purpose. That's really not easy to find out the way, furthermore for non English natives and newbees! :) I'll try to list the exact name and corresponding keys for the 4 modules i own... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Fifi Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) Well i was wrong. In all modules, it's the same default key to trigger the radio: RAlt + \ But on my key board, i don't have right Alt! Only left Alt...and on the right side of it, i only have Alt Gr. I tried to make it work without success. So only way to me is to map a joystick button for example, so it works. And the names listed are different: - For the Huey, it's "Pilot's radio Trigger RADIO" - For the MI8, it's "Radio Trigger radio" - For the P51, it's "COMM push to talk" - For the BS2, it's "SPU9 PTT" - For the SU 25A, it's only "Communication Menu"...no radio to trigger. On side note, i thought i had to first bring the communication menu, then to hit "radio trigger" (or whatever it is called) to be able to communicate... but no. Just hitting "radio trigger" brings up the communication menu directly, and i can choose what i want. Other side note, in the P51, no radio frequencies to set and choose...it's a box on cockpit right side, with red buttons pre-programmed. The B button is for all towers communications.
