JayPee Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Quick question, I'm pretty sure when I tap the polarity switch the MAV image is supposed to switch between dark cold on light hot or light hot on dark cold. However, only the MAV symbology is noticably changing from black to white or the other way around, not the footage the sensor's feeding my MFD. It feels weird, it should look different somehow. Did I mess up graphic options? Is it a bug perhaps? I couldn't find other reports of this. i7 4790K: 4.8GHz, 1.328V (manual) MSI GTX 970: 1,504MHz core, 1.250V, 8GHz memory
sobek Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 The MAV sensor feed can not be polarity switched, IIRC. The boat switch just controls the crosshair color. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Eddie Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Maverick polarity selection is not modelled in DCS. But it does mean what you're thinking. In he case of the Mav polarity does not refer to whot/bhot, but the contrast of the target in relation to the background. IRL it's purpose is to tell the Mav if it should be locking onto a light/hot object on a dark/cold background or a dark/cold object on a light/hot background. If you have he wrong polarity set the seeker will not lock on. And it applies to both CCD and IIR Mavericks.
cichlidfan Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Also, the chart on pg 90 of the Flight Manual indicates that the boat switch only changes the color of the symbols when SOI is Maverick. JayPee Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Also, the chart on pg 90 of the Flight ManualI know, but the RL manual says otherwise and I also recalled seeing otherwise on images on the web. No specifics links at hand right now. Maverick polarity selection is not modelled in DCS.OK thanks. I can stop looking now. i7 4790K: 4.8GHz, 1.328V (manual) MSI GTX 970: 1,504MHz core, 1.250V, 8GHz memory
JayPee Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 If that is true, I must be mistaken by what I thought to remember as visually different colour schemes on the MAV's image. i7 4790K: 4.8GHz, 1.328V (manual) MSI GTX 970: 1,504MHz core, 1.250V, 8GHz memory
amalahama Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Shame, this is one feature which would be nice to have in the future. Regards!
sobek Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Shame, this is one feature which would be nice to have in the future. It doesn't make any sense to have it, actually, since in DCS the tracking does not happen optically. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
amalahama Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 It doesn't make any sense to have it, actually, since in DCS the tracking does not happen optically. I mean, having a realistic tracking behaviour for IIR/TV missiles, either using a better "emulation" or processing the image directly, as in RL. Regards
JayPee Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 processing the image directlyLet's not do that prior tp multicore support. I do agree, there are details not implemented accurately which could have been without revealing underlying secrets around used techniques by simply emulating the noticable results of an action. i7 4790K: 4.8GHz, 1.328V (manual) MSI GTX 970: 1,504MHz core, 1.250V, 8GHz memory
